Why would anyone become Catholic?

Why would intelligent, successful people give up their careers, alienate their friends, and cause havoc in their families...to become Catholic? Indeed, why would anyone become Catholic?

As an evangelist and author who recently threw my own life into some turmoil by deciding to enter the Catholic Church, I've faced this question a lot lately. That is one reason I decided to make this documentary; it's part of my attempt to try to explain to those closest to me why I would do such a crazy thing.

Convinced isn't just about me, though. The film is built around interviews with some of the most articulate and compelling Catholic converts in our culture today, including Scott Hahn, Francis Beckwith, Taylor Marshall, Holly Ordway, Abby Johnson, Jeff Cavins, Devin Rose, Matthew Leonard, Mark Regnerus, Jason Stellman, John Bergsma, Christian Smith, Kevin Vost, David Currie, Richard Cole, and Kenneth Howell. It also contains special appearances by experts in the field of conversion such as Patrick Madrid and Donald Asci.

Ultimately, this is a story about finding truth, beauty, and fulfillment in an unexpected place, and then sacrificing to grab on to it. I think it will entertain and inspire you, and perhaps even give you a fresh perspective on an old faith.

a great picture of Fatima!!!, do you have any idea of how many people personally witnessed miracles while the children witnessed their apparition???? Tens of thousands....close enough for me!

Wow.

On May 13, 1946, Cardinal Masalla, the personal delegate of Pius XII, crowned in his name Our Lady of Fátima, as the Pope issued a second message about Fátima: "The faithful virgin never disappointed the trust put on her. She will transform into a fountain of graces, physical and spiritual graces, over all of Portugal, and from there, breaking all frontiers, over the whole Church and the entire world".

If Mary is capable of all of this, then why does the roman catholic cult need Christ at all?

Again, we have ZERO evidence from the Bible that any of this is in line with Scripture.

You quote Luther to attempt to get me to believe the false teachings on Mary??

Now that's comical....a member of the catholic cult appealing to Luther. LOL!

good grief, we have machines that can work much faster than that....and, there are only 2 answers...yes and no, how hard can it be??

This is typical fundie lunacy. Remember our Corinthians:

But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.

Only fundies think Heaven is some sort of extension of human existence on Earth. Their faith doesn't allow them to progress beyond that. It's a theological cul-de-sac.

Jesus didn’t come to begin ANY religion because religion doesn’t save, so there’s no point in religon

sure He did, and He said so.....but good luck with dropping out of His established religion and making it on your own.....many are called, few are chosen.....too bad!

There's a reason they call it Faith. If you want to be some sort of Cartesian rationalist/materialist about the matter why not go over to the LENR threads.

Hail Mary... kind of sounds like the biblical words of the angel, doesn't it???

kinda? yeah. but not really. counterfeit money looks real until you examine it.

so let's examine what the real money says...shall we?

And coming in, he said to her, “Greetings, favored one! The Lord is with you.” (NASB)

Greetings, you favored with grace! the Lord with you blessed are you among women. (Greek)

The word for greeting is "Χαιρε". It means to rejoice, am glad, also a salutation: Hail.

It is a greeting....not a title as the roman catholic cult has switched it to.

The major translations, including KJV, Darby, and Douay-Rheims respectfully render the greeting as follows:

Hail, thou that art highly favored....

Hail, full of grace...

Hail, [thou] favored one!.....

Well, why don't we venture over to the book of Mormon and see how things are on the north American continent?

There's a reason we have the Word. We are to measure all teaching against it to see if they square away.

no wonder you're not Catholic, you don't believe the very words of Christ....how sad.

Again...you cannot defend the roman catholic cult’s teachings on Mary so you resort to 7th grade antics. LOL!

It didn’t even seem ritual I have to say...reminded me of kids plays at school...there was no heart in any of that....just everybody trying to remember where they were suppose to stand...and what page to read from...and the church was more than half empty on at Easter no less. I actually felt bad for them CB...why were they even there?

Assuming you're telling the truth your issue is that this wasn't some choreographed rock band multimedia affair? I guess worship is all about how you feel. Sorry the Mass didn't entertain you.

Don't tell me. Tell the fundie crazies that think the Church Triumphant is counting the seconds while beholding the Beatific Vision.

I came across EWTN one night weeks ago. I have never, ever seen more bored looks on any faces like I did then. They looked like they had rather be anywhere else than where they were. Never will forget those looks.
