Why would anyone become Catholic?

Why would intelligent, successful people give up their careers, alienate their friends, and cause havoc in their families...to become Catholic? Indeed, why would anyone become Catholic?

As an evangelist and author who recently threw my own life into some turmoil by deciding to enter the Catholic Church, I've faced this question a lot lately. That is one reason I decided to make this documentary; it's part of my attempt to try to explain to those closest to me why I would do such a crazy thing.

Convinced isn't just about me, though. The film is built around interviews with some of the most articulate and compelling Catholic converts in our culture today, including Scott Hahn, Francis Beckwith, Taylor Marshall, Holly Ordway, Abby Johnson, Jeff Cavins, Devin Rose, Matthew Leonard, Mark Regnerus, Jason Stellman, John Bergsma, Christian Smith, Kevin Vost, David Currie, Richard Cole, and Kenneth Howell. It also contains special appearances by experts in the field of conversion such as Patrick Madrid and Donald Asci.

Ultimately, this is a story about finding truth, beauty, and fulfillment in an unexpected place, and then sacrificing to grab on to it. I think it will entertain and inspire you, and perhaps even give you a fresh perspective on an old faith.

That's rich coming from a single verse to support all their doctrines Catholic.

Taken out of context Scripture is the mainstay of Catholic doctrine.

You are wrong! Prots Are the ones that take things out of context.

Early Christians valued relics highly, and they were much closer to Apostolic times than you or me.

Early Christians Catholics valued relics highly, and they were much closer to Apostolic times than you or me.

So what if they were earlier in time to the apostles.

Error was creeping in to the church from the very beginning. There is no move of God that takes place that Satan is not there immediately, trying to corrupt it.

Show us ONE place in the NT where any of this relic nonsense is taught, condoned, encouraged, or even referred to fro the church.

Resettozero: Why does the RCC, including the Pontiffs in my lifetime, not support Jews and minister directly to Jews instead of to the enemies of Judah and Israel?

JPX:Define support.

Way to weasel out of answering....

Tacit admission that the Catholic church does NOT support Israel.

OTOH, we can see how the Catholic church supports Israels enemies....

YOUR pope kissing the koran. Fits right in with YOUR Catechism of the Catholic church.

"The plan of salvation also includes those who acknowledge the Creator, in the first place amongst whom are the Muslims; these profess to hold the faith of Abraham, and together with us they adore the one, merciful God, mankind's judge on the last day."330

“Yes, Catholics can gamble and drink, (although not get drunk)but ANYTHING to do with sex outside of marriage is an automatic Mortal Sin! You go to Hell forever.
No. ALL sins are covered by the blood of Christ. Recall that Christ said even if you just think about adultery it is a sin.

We do ask for forgiveness and He will forgive.”

Not if you die after sinning but before Confession. Then, you go to HELL for all ETERNITY.

“... or, perhaps progressive policies, politicking from the pulpit, and preaching social justice are driving some away. Recently during Mass, I wasn’t told who to vote for but what the progressive “values” should be.”

I agree. This new Pope seems almost heretical, in some ways.

You're implying Jesus death on the Cross wasn't quite sufficient.

Verily I tell thee truly: You are way way wrong.

As I have explained anything I say give you all a springboard to go off on rants. I won’t do that.

You are wrong.

It’s not that you “won’t” do that.

It’s that you CAN’T do that because they don’t exist.

how about this...Catholics were the only Christians on earth...suddenly along came some who would attempt to spread a false interpretation of the bible...as the ONLY guardians and protectors of the truth, it probably made them very nervous about liars and they acted accordingly.

You are wrong!

;-)

How about comparing the early Church as described in Acts and the Epistles to the modern day Catholic Church?

Start with 1 Timothy 3:1-2.

Jesus is GOD...He makes the laws.....

He is also Righteous and Just. He's not some tyrannical despot. Anyone who believes otherwise does not know God.

Now you are calling Scriptural refutation of Catholic teaching RANTS?

Only if it’s supported by clear Scriptural evidence.

God made the law and was pretty clear about what would be done to anyone who ate blood.

you say God made the law.........was Jesus an afterthought.....if He, Jesus (God), made the law, He certainly could change it.......did you ever eat a medium rare steak....thought so.

Qurons, desiccated limbs, moldy skulls... If you're gonna smooch something disgusting you really ought to go “all out.”

Rotten bones, they're not just for worshiping anymore!

ampu:>>Unless you demonstrate that something WAS a tradition at the time of the Apostles, it was not Apostolic Tradition. Until you demonstrate that, you have not answered the question.<<

cb:Exactly! And all they are left with is faith in men relying on word of mouth passed through untold generations. Even secular laws understand that to be unreliable.

It would certainly not hold up in a court of law.

Pretty sad, isn't it, when the secular world has higher standards for integrity and reliability than the church?

Just another example of the world outdoing the church when it should be the other way around.

You can compare the Catholic Church to the Church described in The Epistles and see how far from “Jesus’ Church” they are!
