“Be sure to turn in posts you think are breaking the rules, and from both sides would be nice... I noticed you only pointed out posts from Protestant type posters.”

Your point would be valid only if both sides were treated equally.

“It’s been my experience that all belief systems are put through the gauntlet here on open threads.”

Here’s a little something, originally posted by someone else, that is relevant here:

“I can explain (some alleged contradiction) quite easily. I see it here on FR all the time. Somebody latches onto a simple misinterpretation of a statement because it gives that person the perfect venue to strut and preen in defense of his own ecclesiastical/political/moral existence. Thus has Satan snuck in to the discussion all unnoticed. The saints—I believe it was a hated Jesuit as a matter of fact—have taught us that in a dispute, the disputing parties have a duty to attach the most innocent and least malicious motives and explanations to the other’s statements. It is part of the virtue of charity. It is what anyone would want from you, and it is plain common sense.

Now, there’s a recipe for elevating the level of discourse in the blink of an eye.”

If the Protestants here did not say untrue, malicious, and downright despicable things about Catholicism and Catholics, these threads would not exist.

Why? Because Catholics simply do not hate Protestants and Protestantism as some Protestants appear to hate Catholicism and Catholics.

Yes, I said “appear to hate,” even though reasoning backwards from behavior to motive—inductive reasoning—is sometimes prohibited here.

The duck test exists because it is so often correct: If it looks like a duck, swims like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then it probably is a duck.

If the Protestants Catholics here did not say untrue, malicious, and downright despicable things about Catholicism Protestantism and Catholics Protestants, these threads would not exist.

And actually, this thread in itself is an attack on Protestantism. For all the claims of not *Prot bashing* that Catholics make, threads like this belie that claim.

I disagree. I think there IS observable evidence that many FRoman Catholics do seem to hate Protestants, Protestantism and even those who do not identify as Protestant but who are not-Catholic Christians. There are a few who regularly say untrue, malicious, and downright despicable things about Protestantism and not Catholic Christians, going so far as to judge their eternal salvation. It's astounding to me that some people seem to be blinded to this reality.

I also believe the Religion Moderator is entirely fair and even handed and does a good job of responding to complaints. It's unreasonable to expect him/her to comb through every Religion Forum thread looking for violations. Elevating the discourse here needs ALL of us to accomplish that on our own and not having to have the Moderator babysit us.
