catholicism's mary is not God's mother....

Only those with pagan beliefs create 'female deities' idols, the very ones God sent the Israelites to destroy

My soul magnifies the Lord,
And my spirit rejoices in God my Savior.
For He has regarded the low estate of His handmaiden,
For behold, henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.
For He who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is His name. And His mercy is on those who fear Him from generation to generation.
He has shown strength with His arm:
He has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.
He has put down the mighty from their thrones,
and exalted those of low degree.
He has filled the hungry with good things;
and the rich He has sent empty away.
He has helped His servant Israel, in remembrance of His mercy;
As He spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to His posterity forever.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen

Magníficat ánima mea Dóminum,
et exsultávit spíritus meus
in Deo salvatóre meo,
quia respéxit humilitátem
ancíllæ suæ.

Ecce enim ex hoc beátam
me dicent omnes generatiónes,
quia fecit mihi magna,
qui potens est,
et sanctum nomen eius,
et misericórdia eius in progénies
et progénies timéntibus eum.
Fecit poténtiam in bráchio suo,
dispérsit supérbos mente cordis sui;
depósuit poténtes de sede
et exaltávit húmiles.
Esuriéntes implévit bonis
et dívites dimísit inánes.
Suscépit Ísrael púerum suum,
recordátus misericórdiæ,
sicut locútus est ad patres nostros,
Ábraham et sémini eius in sæcula.

Glória Patri et Fílio
et Spirítui Sancto.
Sicut erat in princípio,
et nunc et semper,
et in sæcula sæculórum.

Amen.

She became the Mother of God, in which work so many and such great good things are bestowed on her as pass man’s understanding. For on this there follows all honor, all blessedness, and her unique place in the whole of mankind, among which she has no equal, namely, that she had a child by the Father in heaven, and such a Child . . . Hence men have crowded all her glory into a single word, calling her the Mother of God . . . None can say of her nor announce to her greater things, even though he had as many tongues as the earth possesses flowers and blades of grass: the sky, stars; and the sea, grains of sand. It needs to be pondered in the heart what it means to be the Mother of God.

(Commentary on the Magnificat, 1521; in Luther’s Works, Pelikan et al, vol. 21, 326)

“Jesus said to them again, ‘Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I send you.’ And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and said to them, ‘Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.’ “

>>What fraction of the Bible makes up the Gospel?<<

It's all about Jesus.

>>Is the portion which is not “Gospel” to be discarded?<<

None of it gets discarded or added too or changed.

Now, about the subject of the thread. Have you found an infallible source showing that the apostles taught the assumption of Mary and the requirement to believe that?

The assumption of Mary is dogma in the Catholic faith. One must express belief in the assumption to be a member of the Catholic Church. The Catholic Church has also stated that there is no salvation outside the Catholic Church. Thus the belief in the assumption of Mary is needed for salvation per the Catholic Church. THAT is "another gospel" not taught by the apostles.

Yes it is a dogma, one runs the risk of heresy by being Catholic and not believing it; however, one is still a member of the Church.

Concerning "no salvation outside the Church", an explanation for why this is true but someone who is not Catholic can still go to heaven, is that in heaven they will be Catholic even if not here on Earth.

Thus the belief in the assumption of Mary is needed for salvation per the Catholic Church.

The only sin I am aware of that if committed could guarantee eternal damnation is that of blaspheming the Holy Spirit. We do have purgatory and prayers for the dead to handle other things.

I still do not see how the Assumption of Mary is another Gospel. And for that matter, I have seen no proof that the Apostles did not preach the Assumption of Mary or that Mary was not assumed.

You ashamed of what you say? Not a surprise, but why? Can’t take the truth? They are YOUR words, right?

Do you still claim ALL organized religions are wrong and that even venerating a simple Cross is pagan?

But A Christian is still a Christian regardless if they are unrepentant in their sin. It just makes them a bad Christian.

WOW! I'm gonna need to bookmark this as it seldom gets said by a FRoman Catholic. The next time one claims non-Catholics are not Christians and cannot be saved unless they become Catholics, I'll be sure to refer them to you. Thanks!

Jesus still dead on the cross ey? Satan must love that image being projected to the world.

1 Cor 2 NIV
2 And so it was with me, brothers and sisters. When I came to you, I did not come with eloquence or human wisdom as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God.[a] 2
For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. 3 I came to you in weakness with great fear and trembling. 4 My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, 5 so that your faith might not rest on human wisdom, but on God’s power.

How would Satan enjoy us being reminded that our sins lead to Our Lord being crucified? This is a very real reminder of our sins and the damage they do.

>>I have seen no proof that the Apostles did not preach the Assumption of Mary or that Mary was not assumed.<<

So it has sunk to that level ey? The gospel of "it could a been". Hey, if you want to base your salvation on that it's your business. But understand that the sword of truth which is the word of God will be used to warn others of the errors of Catholicism.

If you are posting Scripture to make some point, please explain what you are trying to say. What you posted is a nice quote, but is completely without context in this conversation.

Romans 4: 16 Therefore, the promise comes by faith, so that it may be by grace and may be guaranteed to all Abraham’s offspring—not only to those who are of the law but also to those who have the faith of Abraham. He is the father of us all. 17 As it is written: “I have made you a father of many nations.” He is our father in the sight of God, in whom he believed—the God who gives life to the dead and calls into being things that were not. ...
