They might be misdiagnosing 'Bell's Palsy' as a pinched nerve.

Bell's Palsy is rare to the point of many ER doctors going through a whole career and never encountering it. Even in a big metro area an ER might only get one or two cases a year of people thinking they're having strokes but it's really only Bell's Palsy. See your GP for further tests.

Bell's Palsy is basically harmless, but even for a pinched nerve they may prescribe Prednisone. I'd put some real thought into taking that stuff if I were you. I'll never take that stuff again.

I want to thank everyone who prayed for me the last 2 days, and say hello to those who had no idea:
I have a pinched nerve in my back for the last 3 or 4 weeks, just a pain, something I thought a good Chinese shopping mall masseuse could work out, so, I never bothered with it.
Last weekend, our Doctor in the Marine Corps League said that when I turn my head and get a head rush, that means a pinched nerve. I kept that in mind.
Yesterday at 11:30, I was driving back from a vendor and my left side of my face went numb from my cheek to my lower lip, sort of like when the novacaine almost has worn off from the dentist.
I went to my primary care doc and all of them were at lunch.
Not one could see me.
Not one.
They told me to go to the emergency room, so I went.
I immediately had a CT Scan and blood work done and waited to talk to more doctors
I lost partial sensation in my skin on my face and arms but not legs
No other signs of stroke, but the numbness and skin feeling going away
I had xrays taken at night and was admitted
This mornign I had an MRI on my head to see if there was a stroke, my neck to see if I had a blown disk and an ultrasound to see if I had clogged arteries in my jugular viens.
Final diagnosis is my nerves are being pinched by bulging disk around C6
Physical Therapy on order and massage therapy, too
I am seriously in the hole after this one, I guess I am lucky, some costs go down due tobeing admitted, but they did the triple whammy on me medically: X-Ray, CT Scan, MRI AND an cardiac ultrasound on the neck
So...How was your week?
:)

This goes away on its own. The stuff surrounding the spinal nerve bulges out from where it’s supposed to be and rests on a peripheral nerve, causing pain and/or numbness and/or muscle weakness. Slowly the gunk gets absorbed by the body and is not where it’s not supposed to be anymore.

I had this about 30 years ago. Therapy where they lift your head up was the only thing that sort of helped. Then it went away.

So glad it is minor and not a brain thing. Answered prayers!

Race, thanks for letting us know you are doing better.

Now, you have a baseline with all these tests and can see if anything is trending in the wrong direction as future tests are taken.

What you had was nothing to fool around with—you did the right thing.

You are still needed here, FRiend.

So...How was your week?

Compared to yours, a piece of cake. :)

I am so happy to hear it was not as serious as it could have been. Our paths haven't crossed much lately on FR, but you are one of my role models around here. Take care of yourself RaceBannon!
