BILLINGS, Mont. A gay couple has been told they can no longer receive Communion or participate in church ministry after the new priest at a Roman Catholic church in central Montana learned they had been married in a civil ceremony more than a year ago.
The decision set off a split that has cut attendance at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church in Lewistown, population 5,900. It has prompted an upcoming visit from the bishop of the Diocese of Great Falls-Billings.

Thank God for the Priest.
Good, I was shocked when a gay woman came to see my mom in the hospital and claimed to be a parishioner at my mom’s Catholic Church. What on earth is happening here?
yes, ole Kasper can just “rethink” it into being ok
This church will capitulate to the sodomites. Watch and see.
Since they were allowed participation as an openly geh couple, what difference does this recent change really make?
wow that is wonderful
Would not offering them communion be an acceptance of their sin?
Why would a Christian do that. Christ loved all but nothing in his teaching instructs us to accept sin or to enable it..
In this case, I think not stating this brave and dedicated priest’s name is good, for his own safety. And I hate to think that I’m having to think of the safety of a priest for doing his priestly duties in this country.
Why couldn’t a gay woman be a parishioner at your mother’s Catholic Church? Do you really think that there are no gay people in the pews?
It is not the ‘gayness’ but the acting out of the ‘gayness’ that is the sin.
Hope you can still see with that giant log in your eye.
I agree with you sucka but this one was carrying on about her “partner” Louise
It's news becomes sometimes when a priest does this--as in the famous case of Father Marcel Guarnizo, who quietly denied the Eucharist to a practicing Buddhist woman in an open lesbian relationship--he is tossed out of his job and receives numerous credible death threats. In that situation the archbishop did not back him up; in fact, it was the archbishop who stripped him of his priestly faculties in that archdiocese. That archbishop, Donald Wuerl of Washington, is now very close to the pope.
Oh, no! Wuerl did that? face-plant.
“So a Catholic church is following Biblical teaching? Why is this news?”
Because it doesn’t happen much anymore?
Google it. That brilliant, courageous, holy priest acted completely in accord with canon law, but was driven from his job by Wuerl. The parish was under siege by violent liberal gays who threatened him with death, and we had cops on duty there all the time, supplemented by K of C parishioners who were active duty military and LEOs. Thanks, Donald, you corrupt hypocrite.
Are you so sure that that is the purpose of his trip?
Well, the last sentence in the article reads:
“The bishop he says he must uphold church teachings.”
In the circumstances, that sounds pretty positive.
Good to hear. Thanks for pointing that out.
What if they asked for an annulment?
Not only that, but this "couple" had been in an unrepentant relationship for 30+ years and receiving Holy Communion during that time. This is their wake up call if they are willing to answer the phone.
Considering they weren’t married in the Church to begin with, they can’t get an annulment. The Church does not recognize civil marriages be they normal or same-sex.
