"And behold, the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. And the earth shook, and the rocks were split."(Mt 27:50-51)

First, the veil was a significant structure. It was approximately 6-feet high and 4-inches thick.

Notice that it was torn from top to bottom. It was a work of God.

The veil is a "type" of Christ. We can now enter the "Holy of Holies" because He opened the way (Heb 10:19,20). It's no longer an inadequate, annual ritual of atonement for past sins, it is an every day access and forgiveness for all sin (I John 1:9)

When it was torn in two, man's inability to access the Father was gone. Christ is the "Great High Priest" (Heb 8:1,2). He led the captive free! Christ made a substitutionary payment ("propitiation") for our sins.

The resurrection follows and brings us new life in Christ. Here is the power for living that the children of God have. Hallelujah!

"Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need."(Heb 4:14-16)

Great passage! If only Catholics would grasp the significance of that passage. We have a personal High Priest that has been through what we go through and more. He knows our every thought yet has clothed us in His righteousness so we can go directly before the Father. No fallible man between us and our heavenly Father.

It seems they’d rather have someone enter the presence of God on their behalf.
