You got as good laugh outta my #183 reply.
Are you going to do the same over #187???
Thanks for PROVING your claim of REMOVAL to be completely false.
But I am not laughing about it.
I have no idea.
I guess ANYTHING is possible these days...

Then wouldn't these minority people be more correctly labeled DEIST instead of Christian?
I think Jesus may have mentioned something about TRADITION.
And the CHURCH declares that the Bible 'contains' EVERYthing that is needed for salvation.
We donn need no steekin' LIST!!
But, the unasked question asks: WHY?
Didn't the Wonderful RCC put the bible that we now have TOGETHER?
WHY did it FAIL to include anything that was REALLY needed to be placed in it?
FREE?
Are you NUTS?
Typical Catholic red herring...
The spellcheck did not notice that indoctrination was spelled wrong.
Luke 16:31
But he said to him, If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded though one rise from the dead.
Looks like 'the bible' indicates that there was PLENTY of 'scripture' ALREADY to get the job done!
WE do??
The Ethiopian eunuch had some 'scripture' that he was reading.
What EXTRA 'tradition' did Philip educate him with?
26 Now an angel of the Lord said to Philip, Rise and go toward the south to the road that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza. This is a desert place. 27 And he rose and went. And there was an Ethiopian, a eunuch, a court official of Candace, queen of the Ethiopians, who was in charge of all her treasure. He had come to Jerusalem to worship 28 and was returning, seated in his chariot, and he was reading the prophet Isaiah. 29 And the Spirit said to Philip, Go over and join this chariot. 30 So Philip ran to him and heard him reading Isaiah the prophet and asked, Do you understand what you are reading? 31 And he said, How can I, unless someone guides me? And he invited Philip to come up and sit with him. 32 Now the passage of the Scripture that he was reading was this:
Like a sheep he was led to the slaughter
and like a lamb before its shearer is silent,
so he opens not his mouth.
33 In his humiliation justice was denied him.
Who can describe his generation?
For his life is taken away from the earth.
34 And the eunuch said to Philip, About whom, I ask you, does the prophet say this, about himself or about someone else? 35 Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning with this Scripture he told him the good news about Jesus. 36 And as they were going along the road they came to some water, and the eunuch said, See, here is water! What prevents me from being baptized? 38 And he commanded the chariot to stop, and they both went down into the water, Philip and the eunuch, and he baptized him. 39 And when they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord carried Philip away, and the eunuch saw him no more, and went on his way rejoicing. 40 But Philip found himself at Azotus, and as he passed through he preached the gospel to all the towns until he came to Caesarea.
...NO one expects the Catholics to do the same!!
Those are no examples of someone saying that the Bible contains everything.
They’re simply an interpretation of those phrases, and a very loose one at that.
You claimed that there are those who say the Bible contains everything. Then come on and show us the post. Provide a link so we can see it for ourselves.
metmom,
Asking for an official list of traditions appears to be the equivalent of throwing “holy water” on a vampire....
Or perhaps it is just asking questions that call for specifics.
In either case, I am for people knowing Christ by entrusting themselves to His Gospel of Grace, wherever they choose to worship.
Or perhaps it is just asking questions that call for specifics.
I've noticed that too. Nothing makes a Catholic fade into the woodwork faster than asking for specifics.
I've posed these questions to numerous Catholics over the months and not had one taker on it.
Feel free to use them yourself.
Just what are those traditions Paul was referring to that he handed down that we are to keep that were not included in Scripture?
How do you know?
How do you know theyre from the apostles, Paul in particular?
How do you know theyve been passed down faithfully?
What is your source for verifying all of the above?
Please provide the sources for verification purposes.
” How do you know theyre from the apostles, Paul in particular?
“How do you know theyve been passed down faithfully?
If they were really official traditions, I want documentation they were practiced or believed during the time of the Apostles and before 100ad:
Where do they appear in Sacred Scripture as:
Commandments
Teachings
Examples
Imperative statements of any kind.
Where do they appear outside Sacred Scripture before 100ad in:
Contemporaneous secular writings
Sacred artworks
Secular artworks
If they were not practiced, they were not passed down from the Apostles, nor referred to by the Apostles.
The claim of “traditions” is simply the identical claim of a “living constitution” we hear in the political world. It is the claimed authority to add to God’s revelation at any time, in any century, for any reason the leadership prefers.
The Holy, Inspired Scriptures serve as a bulwark against theological drift into error.
And to close...
This is why I care about someone’s spiritual state of entrusting themselves to the Gospel of Grace, apart from works. Sure, lots “believe” the Gospel (if they understand it). Demons believe. Have you entrusted yourself to HIM and salvation by grace, apart from works or any contribution on your part? Which assembly you choose to worship at after that is not important to me. God can guide you.
