That same kind of magical thinking is common in our culture these days and we see it when the ignorant say that a gun 'just went off' or when they say they 'believe in global warming' as if it were a religion. Is it then no surprise that people blame the shortcomings of their own actions on supernatural sources? They've never taken responsibility for their own actions and they never will.
Or how some parents can’t comprehend the fact that their son or daughter ended up committing some kind of crime. I remember a case where a group of upper class kids vandalized a house that was being built, made a horrific mess. Apparently a mother was quoted as saying “When you get a citation like this, you don’t know what it means.” I means that the parent has failed to raise their kids right.
It’s a complete abdication of control and responsibility over your life.
At the risk of being dicey, a lot of girls go to parties, get drunk, have sex (or get taken advantage of) and then screech about how the school should have been ‘looking out for them,’ despite the fact that university is supposed to be a place where you are in control and should be using the time as a preparation for adulthood. These girls should be looking out for themselves and paying attention to how much they’ve been drinking. They shouldn’t expect professors or administrators to babysit them and it’s wrong for so many people at young adulthood to be so careless.
So much magical thinking and stupidity is wrecking this country. All this birth control and information available, but so many airheads refuse to connect the dots and then blame someone else when something goes wrong. As if these women weren’t in a bedroom, taking off their clothes, and then getting into bed. As for the men, the men need to stop ‘being just a guy’ as an excuse, it makes me sick. Too much emotional immaturity these days, I swear.
