Jessa Duggar is currently courting Ben Seewald, a very strong Christian with very strong views on things. His views on the Catholic faith, however, recently caused a social media scandal and Seewald deleted the comments he had posted to his Facebook page.
"Where Catholics depart from Scripture, I will in no way support, but will call them out because I love them and desire that they be turned from their deadly errors," Seewald wrote. He also noted that he disagreed with the claim that Jesus' mother Mary was a "sinless being. I have nothing against individuals who are Catholic," he continued. "I know a lot of Catholics who are great people. What I DO have a problem with is the teaching that man can merit God's favor through his own works or the works of other fallen men."
Seewald was still not through expressing his disappointment with the Catholic tradition.
"I DO have a problem with the teaching that man can come to God through Mary or any other person besides Jesus
I DO have a problem with the deification of Mary as a sinless being. Mary herself admitted her need for a Savior. If she had no sin, she would need no Savior," he concluded.

The Catholic Church does teach works salvation. I’ve heard it from Catholic leaders at different times. (One example would be a Protestant theologian to Catholic conversion story posted here a little while ago in which the man wrote he couldn’t get behind the idea of man’s total depravity. ) But Catholic leaders just say contradictory things at different times to “cover all the bases.”
AKA Merit. Jesus purified our souls with His shed blood. He imparted His righteousness to us.
Those whom God exalted throughout the Bible were those who were humble before Him, recognizing that He alone is holy but they were sinners. They acknowledged and confessed their sin and their need for a Savior, and that was why the Lord was pleased with them, not because they were sinless. The people who don’t acknowledge their sin and need for salvation are those who will condemned. Mary is one of the former group, and that group, though God is pleased with them, still needed a Savior, or else Jesus died for nothing. His death certainly doesn’t bring salvation to the latter group, who reject Him. There’s nothing but Catholic dogma that says Mary had to be sinless, and it isn’t able to explain how Mary could be sinless coming from her sinful parents. One Catholic told me it was a special act of God. So it can be done for Mary, but not for Jesus, who was God Himself? God needs no cleansing. If you believe He’s God, that’s enough for Him to be sinless. God the Father condescended that His Son would come Cont’d
Could you be kind enough to provide the source of this prayer? Thanks so much.
Speaking for myself, the greatest gift for me is The Mass, specifically the Eucharist. I love Mary for saying yes to becoming the mother of God, but it is this holy sacrament which gives me the strength to follow Jesus.
Saying a rosary or any other Marian prayer you may think yourself clever enough to find on Google is not a requirement of the Catholic faith. Going to Mass and receiving Jesus is.
gobbledegook, sorry, you are making no sense. If Mary hadn’t been sinless, she could not have held Jesus.
(Cont’d) ...would come to this fallen, cursed world, be born of a sinful being and take the form of man, would be rejected by His people, called a sinner, in cluding a blasphemer, have to patiently teach even those who believed in Him, and would also be abandoned by them at the Cross, betrayed by a disciple, too, and then be put to death by His people and all mankind even though He’d committed no sin. The message at every point in the Gospel and all of God’s Word is that ONLY - ONLY - God is good. The Catholic beliefs on Mary that the priesthood has concocted over time make Mary a deity in everything but name. Catholics “stand before her sinful and sorrowful,” look to her for mercy, and “flee to her for protection.” Go to Psalms and David writes the same about the Lord. We are to go to Him, and when we don’t we’re choosing an alternative and NOT going to Him.

Here is another from: http://www.catholic-prayer-life.com/marian-prayers.html
Consecration to Mary
My Queen and my Mother, I give myself entirely to you; and to show my devotion to you. I consecrate to you this day my eyes, my ears, my mouth, my heart, my whole being without reserve. Wherefore, Good Mother, as I am your own, keep me, guard me, as your property and possession. Amen.
No asking for intercession there. Consecrated to Mary, not to Jesus. Just wow!! Now tell me Catholics dont worship Mary.
Go to any Catholic site listing Marian prayers or even prayers to saints. There are many that make the statement by Catholics that they dont pray to Mary a falsehood.
>>Going to Mass and receiving Jesus is.<<
Receiving Jesus is NOT a physical thing its a Spiritual thing. Jesus Himself said the flesh is nothing and that its the Spirit.
John 6:63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.
Matthew 15:17 Do not ye yet understand, that whatsoever entereth in at the mouth goeth into the belly, and is cast out into the draught?
If you want Jesus within you get down on your knees in private and ask Him to come into your life and leave those legalistic pagan rituals of the Catholic Church.
The ideas that Ben asserts about Catholic beliefs are distorted. Bishop Fulton Sheen once commented on the fact that many non-Catholics hate the RC Church because they believe so much about the Church that just isn’t so. not so.
Please tell me how the words of John 3:16 KJV, “shall not perish and have everlasting life,” would not apply to Mary.
If she’s dead, Jesus isn’t who any of us claim he is.
why would God put his only Son in a sinfull woman
Because He could. Who are we, as mere humans, to judge or place limits upon God?
Great question, which can be turned around easily - who are we to think God would not/could not create a woman to be the prototype of a new Eve, sinless from conception, but human in every other way - so as to prepare her to be the spotless vessel for God’s Son Jesus to come into the world?
I agree with him. Why would he remove the truth?
I assure you that in addition to the Eucharist at mass I do find myself on my knees in prayer with Jesus. I truly believe the literal interpretation of John 6:53. Just because a Catholic consumes the Eucharist does not mean he or she does not also have a rich prayer life that includes private time with Jesus. They are not mutually exclusive. Out of curiosity have you ever attended a Catholic mass?
It is your free will to choose not to partake in the physical body of Christ, and I would not offer you a directive to do so, suggesting that your salvation was at stake. I would hope for the same courtesy in return.
“I agree with him. Why would he remove the truth?”
The dire threat of Albino Assassin Monks.
Freegards
Absolutely not. I have studied their Catechism and beliefs, rituals, and vestments enough to know that the Catholic system of belief and practice is primarily pagan in nature. I believe it to be the whore of Revelation with its incorporation of other gods.
The most important point is why would anyone choose to NOT speak to the Lord and to speak to mere creatures instead? And when it comes to Mary, it is not as if she’s treated as just another Christian brother or sister who were asking to pray for us. In ADDITION, Catholics give her many of God’s attributes. Catholic priests declare her sinless, so then Catholics come and “stand before her sinful and sorrowful,” they come to HER for mercy, and “flee to HER for protection.” And those are but a few examples. Why would some of God’s creatures stand “sinful and sorrowful” before another CREATURE?? I’m sure Catholics concede she is a creature so what is the answer for that?
Mary was not sinless. The Bible says, “All have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” I believe it is in Romans. It does not say, “except for Mary.”. There has been only 1 who was sinless.
Thanks for the honest reply. I am sorry you feel that Christ’s church founded by Peter is the whore of revelation. Personally I have a hard time reconciling your criticism of my faith when by your own admission you have never attended a Catholic mass.
While I may be wrong I frequently sense a great amount of open hostility regarding Catholicism, which I find hard to understand. Also, I find it disturbing because Catholics are followers of Jesus and we as Christians should be working together for Him, not infighting about the nature of His mother’s conception. But I am reminded that Satan divides.
Perhaps you have the ability to know what is in the hearts and minds of those standing before an image of Christ’s mother.
But perhaps it is also gratifying to you to condemn fellow Christians after hunting around the internet for evidence of their perceived misdeeds.
Maybe I’m nitpicking, it’s just that I’ve been listening to Paul a lot lately and he is so full of confidence in what believers have in Christ. Prayers like that, while acknowledging need of grace, have a bit of false humility to me, vis a vis the abbondanza of blessing and ASSURANCE Paul teaches.
Yes, none of us are worthy, but He MADE us worthy, yes? Confidence! Bless you.
