They do have pure motives ... I will say that. Liberal scholars have ridiculed Christians because Jesus said He would 'be coming quickly' ... and they point the finger and shout 'See, your faith is misguided because Jesus never came back ... its been 2000+ years.'
In the preterists mind they are defending the scriptures from the liberal ... RC Sproul admits this in his writings. I don't fault them there ... but the approach is undermining the words of the Savior in this one area.
An even more interesting question would be who or what entity is behind this?
They are sincere; I would not label them false teachers per say ... as most would have the gospel right; but just wrong on this view.
‘They are sincere; I would not label them false teachers per say ... as most would have the gospel right; but just wrong on this view.’
If they have to have the wrong view on something, I think I would prefer they be wrong on something else. I understand your explanation of their thinking but I also see that this view they espouse would negate pretty much all the prophecies concerning the return of Christ. Personally I see no reason to argue with people who are either ignorant of the Bible, or intentionally goading Christians to make excuses for what liberals view as too long a wait for His return. I see the liberals as winning this argument because they have forced Christians to change their entire view of the end times.
I cannot see any reason just to please a liberal that a Christian would attempt to contort the word of God to soothe a liberal mind. They are unbelievers anyway, so why worry about what they say or think?
As you know the road to hell is paved with good intentions.
