Catholic services preserve the interactive call-and-response style of the Jewish services, which Jesus attended. Also, when his disciples asked him how to pray, he gave them a rote prayer— the Lord’s Prayer. Obviously, He didn’t use that one exclusively Himself (”My God, why have You forsaken me?”). But it wasn’t a bad idea.
It’s easy to pray rote prayer thoughtfully, without just babbling syllables. If people are doing otherwise, that’s on them, not on the content of the prayers or on the liturgical setting.
More to the point, He did not give them "rote prayer" as in a repeat-after-me sort of thing, but instead as it is written directed them in Matthew 6 to instead
"In this manner, therefore, pray"
"Pray then in this way"
"This, then, is how you should pray"
though I will venture that the prayer itself can be recited as is also, while searching for/meditating inwardly upon meanings as to the manner of the form.
There too is place for call and response sort of worship, where those of the congregation confess with their own voices affirmation of that which is agreed upon to be worthy of worship; Romans 10:9-10
that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
27 Whatever I tell you in the dark, speak in the light; and what you hear in the ear, preach on the housetops. 28 And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. 29 Are not two sparrows sold for a copper coin? And not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Fathers will. 30 But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. 31 Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows. Confess Christ Before Men32 Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven. 33 But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven.
