I fold my hands, bow my head and close my eyes when I pray the Our Father during Mass.

Neither may deacons or non-ordained members of the faithful use gestures or actions which are proper to the same priest celebrant. It is a grave abuse for any member of the non-ordained faithful to "quasi preside" at the Mass while leaving only that minimal participation to the priest which is necessary to secure validity. Liturgical abuses Ping!

I don’t hold hands either, I fold mine in a prayer gesture together and bow my head. I don’t like extending my hands upwards at different times during Mass, especially when the priest asks us to extend our hands towards people he is blessing. It just looks like a Nazi rally to me.

Who thinks up all these nutty rules?
As long as a person prays in a respectful and loving manner, who cares if they’re standing on their heads?

When the person next to me indicates a desire to hold hands during the Lord’s Prayer, I say, with a sheepish grin, “hepatitis”.

Have you ever been to a Catholic Church during a Mass? It appears that your answer might be negative.

especially when the priest asks us to extend our hands towards people he is blessing. I had never heard of such a crazy thing. Sounds like a pagan custom. Or Jim Jones rally. Also the subject of this post -- hand holding and exposing armpits -- I'm going to guess this is one of the stinky fruits of Vatican II. Goes without saying we don't do these things at the Latin Mass.

who cares if theyre standing on their heads?Thank you! I am sick and tired of the judgmental looks I get when I stand on my head at mass.

I’ve said — got a terrible cold — especially during allergy season when what I have is not contagious. LOL!

I am a Baptist and I have seen this extended arm gesture in various churches and have always thought it a ploy for attention. As is the voices calling Amen or Preach It in the middle of a sermon. Especially remember one guy in a Methodist church I went to for several years who did all of the above, turns out he and the Sunday school teacher were involved in some extracurricular activities during church. Also went to AA for years till I decided to cut out the middleman and go to the source, the church. Never liked holding hands with drunks and druggies, you never know where they have been. If the last remark is unChristian I plead guilty.

who cares if theyre standing on their heads? Long as they're not wearing a kilt....
To: bimboeruption
Please stand on your head and pray respectfully in your own home, preferably with the shades drawn.
Those of us who don't want the Mass to turn into a circus or carnival like the rest of society prefer the reverence and respect of the traditional Mass, which does include implicit rules of comportment.

Just curious,Is this offense greater than the Grace of Jesus Christ? Was his blood not worthy to cover this infraction?
To: Salvation
In the early church, all members used the orans position of the hands during the consecration because all were part of the “priesthood of all believers”, and all were participating in the sacramental rite or consecration. Consecration is not an act of the priest, but of the church. Sorry, my Protestantism is showing.

If you were to meet Jesus on the street and recognize him, would you fall to your knees or stand on your head?
