So say we all.
You are right. The US is absolutely heading down the wrong road. One post I read yesterday, I think, sticks in my mind. It said that we are Ninevah before they made their decision about God’s warning through Jonah.
They chose correctly.
There is hope: “Where iniquity did abound, grace did much more abound.”
All are capable of repenting and coming to Christ. All may be susceptible to 'backsliding'. All of us are sinners
But to publicly dispute the authority of Christ and the Bible is to spit in the eye of the Holy Ghost. Those that do so are going, in my opinion, to be far worse off than those that merely lie, fornicate, commit adultery and murder, and a\have unnatural relations.
Of course, I'm not God, nor do I know the hearts of other men. So I could be wrong. Nevertheless, that is my considered opinion.
It’s being guided by a spirit, all right. Just not the Holy One. But orthodox Protestants are as strong on correct doctrine as Catholics, more so that some Popes of modern times, IMO.
It seems that sinning is one thing, but sinning and saying God is wrong about that being a sin is, at a minimum, guilt for 2 sins instead of just the one originally committed.
Sin #1 + Sin #2 - Calling God a liar/deceiver.
There’s no other way to view “God is wrong” than it being another way of saying He is a liar. Since He is all knowing, then He would know if something is not a sin but He goes ahead and tells everyone it is a sin, then He is lying and deceiving.
Since I have limited knowledge, it is possible for me to be wrong and not be a liar. However, God can’t be wrong, so any “mistake” He makes is really intentional.
Saying God is wrong is a grave sin, in my opinion. It is rebellion.
Well, spiritually and biblically, you and I both know that same-sex sodomy is an abomination to the Lord. Xzins, as you probably know, we are living is the last days (it could be anytime but I personally believe we have a few more decades) before His return for us. I believe this last, Laodicean age is where the church, and hence the world, has said "we have need of nothing", has kicked God out, and yet Jesus continues patiently and lovingly knocking to be received back in. So generally, doctrines in the church and the world continue to stray further and further from the truth. Although this is the general state of the church and the world, God still has his "Philadelphia" believers, who are lights in the world until Jesus returns.
Politically, you may or may not have seen my posts decrying the oxymoron, "Gay Rights." There is no legitimate thing called "gay rights". The Constitution does not protect sodomites as a special class. It sounds so stupid to even have to say that, but we are living in an inverted, stupid age. I don't believe in government interfering with consenting adults in private but many confuse that with SANCTIONING "gay marriage" (another misnomer) and forcing legal sodomite rights upon society. What confusion. Also, it is a states' issue, not a federal government issue because the Constitution has not granted the feds power in that area. States are free to do what they want here, but my vote would be to deny state sanctioning of "gay marriage."
Good post, PN.
I’ve always viewed the 7 churches of Revelation more as “types” than as “ages”, but I think we would end up in similar places.
Any church (my own included) that denies homosexuality is a sin is, in my opinion, removing their candlestick.
Mathew 19:4-6 is more than enough Truth to shut down Vines’ regurgitated arguments. Unfortunately people clinching to the current spirit of the “sexual revolution” will welcome the folly. Free will; embrace the responsibility or perish, would not want it any other way.
In my opinion, it is the blasphemy against the Holy Spirit that we have been warned about in Matthew 12:31. It seems to me to be not just worse than the original sin, but even worse than simply neglecting to accept Christ.
But while I dabble, I am not enough of a theologian to justify that point, and maybe it's something else.
My undergrad degree is in Biology. 30 years ago I had a professor who pointed out that our understanding of how DNA determines sex is “the New Biology.” DNA can’t be argued against. The code is absolute. The Human Genome Project failed to find the so-called Gay Gene the apologists were just sure must be there to excuse such behavior. For homosexuals, literally every cell in their bodies cries out against homosexuality, and belies the assertion that “homosexuals were made that way.”
You got it. God didn’t intend for just “theologians” to understand His word— just those with open and honest hearts who want to know the truth. The things the apostles wrote down were for all Christians to understand (1 John 2:1; etc.)
I have done a huge amount of counseling for the Army over my careeer years, and often would encounter alcoholics, alcohol programs, etc. If you recall, that too was considered the result of some level of genetic disposition.
So, an alcoholic really was, for a while there, able to say, “I couldn’t help myself.”
The difference is that nobody cared. They did not accept that as an excuse. They wanted him controlling his deadly behavior.
As the years went on, it seemed more and more to me that it wasn’t so much a “genetic” thing, nor even a learned thing, but that it was a change that took place in the body as a result of the actual behavior itself. Being from an alcoholic parent certainly made it more likely that you, too, would indulge in alcohol. That’s a given.
But the addition of outside material into the body changed something, and I think something inside the body.
