A bishop who met with Pope Francis in a rare private audience on 4 April has said in an interview that the two men discussed the issue of the ordination of proven married men viri probati in a serious and positive way.

There are risks and rewards to married pastors/priest.
First of all, you will have to support the priest’s family. That can get a bit expensive. And he will not be able to cover the amount time a single one can.
Still, it will help in some places. You have a greater pool of canidates for the priesthood.
“I dont know but the Bible says Peter was married”.
And he left his wife and family to follow Jesus, just like the rest of the apostles.
Matthew 8:14 — And when Jesus was come into Peter’s house, he saw his wife’s mother laid, and sick of a fever.
You don’t have to leave your wife and family to follow Jesus.
Yes they do.
I went to a Jesuit high school, one of the teachers (not a Jesuit) was a Roman Catholic priest who was married.
He’d been ordained as an Episcopal priest, and had converted. The Roman Catholic Church allows for such exceptions.
I’m interested in the “proven” qualifier. Perhaps the discussion was about men who are already married being ordained?
In the kitchen, where they belong! *ducks, runs, lol*
No you don’t, but his apostles did. He didn’t say “come with me, and bring your family”. He said just the opposite. He told them to leave everything and follow him.
No you dont, but his apostles did. He didnt say come with me, and bring your family. He said just the opposite. He told them to leave everything and follow him.
Seems Peter made it back around to at least his family.
We’re not going to agree. To me, bishops, priests, and the Pope are men that will be judged as all of us. I find nothing wrong if they choose to marry. That’s just going my point of view and I can understand yours.
Matt 19
27 Then answered Peter and said unto him, Behold, we have forsaken all, and followed Thee; what shall we have therefore?
28 And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That ye which have followed Me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of His glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
29 And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name’s sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life.
There is only one verse that even mentions Peter’s wife and that is related to the fact that his mother-in-law was sick and lived at his house. We are not even told if his wife was still alive.
I read your profile and here’s something that we can agree on ......
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God; all things were made through him, and without him was not anything made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. - John 1:1-4
Its a discipline. It can change. Although, right now, celibacy for the Kingdom of God is a powerful witness in our sex - society.
-— . Trust but verify. -—
Well said.
-— That should carry a lot of weight, in my opinion. -—
True. But at the same time, St. Paul and Jesus commend celibacy.
Obligatory Mass attendance on Sundays is also a discipline. It can change.
Confession at least once a year is also a discipline. It can change.
Whoopi! We’re becoming just like the Protestants!
There's dogma, and there's discipline, and the pope and bishops in union are the authentic interpreters of both.
I never mentioned dogma. Why did you bring that up?
Bishops don’t “interpret” dogma.
In addition to promulgating dogma, they can properly interpret dogma, or make it more clear or comprehensible.
Your comments suggest that you think disciplines can't change. Disciplines can change and have changed. Dogmas can't.
I suggested no such thing. Holy Communion in the hand while on the hoof is a discipline, it’s obvious that disciplines have changed tremendously since VC II.
