The answer is self-evident, Captain Obvious, what’s not clear are the reasons for this decline. How about emancipation of the lower classes, and wide acceptance of their lower class habits? Are Modern People Morally Advanced?
The requirement for morally advanced is an easy & ample access to:
Food, Drink, proper Housing, all of course based on cheap energy (Oil/Gas/WaterPower nowadays).
That allows us the Disconnect from the 'Primal....'
The feeling or teachings of Guilt is the barrier to keep us at that "higher" Level.
If any of the minimum requirements are not available, we will fall back to a part of the Mind where Guilt is not part of the equation, unknown, not installed.
To reach that "lower" State, if that situation should occure, I estimate it takes 1 Month, in some people perhaps < 10 Days, to become another Entity.
Keep your Guns close by.

Absolutely not.
Advances in technology do not equate to advances in human nature.
Our problem is that we are still the same human beings as those so many look down on in scorn but our technology is fast and far outstripping our ability to use it wisely.
