While I understand your reaction to those who seem to relish offending christians (or different faiths) there is always something faith-confirming in those threads. And its instructive to see how other more articulate freepers of faith deal with typical anti-christian or anti religion arguments, etc.

Great points. I admire those who can come onto a thread and respectfully debate their objections. I really admire someone who can come onto a thread they disagree with, debate their position and not respond in kind to insults. I VERY greatly admire those who can ignore a thread they disagree with!

We’re not really ravenous ... just dieting.

Thanks for the humor!

Christians are not the ones who started this fight. Joseph Smith threw down the gauntlet, the Christians picked it up, and the Mormons have been crying “foul” ever since.

Same with others who suddenly threw down their gauntlet (JWs, Armstrongists, SDAs, just to name a few) and declared “THEY” were right and everyone else was wrong!

Christians also picked up that gauntlet and these new groups too have been crying “foul!” when they found themselves challenged on all fronts.

Meanwhile, the Catholics and Protestants tangle and each is able to fairly well hold their ground and often score points for their cause. But then, what do you expect from well founded Trinitarians.

Mat_7:15 "Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolfhounds.

An apt description of Joseph Smith, the founder of Mormonism.

I expect everyone to pile on so it’s okay....just do it. I was raised Pentecostal by a preacher grandfather and God fearing grandmother so spent many many hours in church every week. But so many churches/people condemning other people is the exact reason I don’t go to church! I just don’t, and I guess never will understand, why so many Christians must act holier than thou. They need lessons from Mother Theresa. Just my opinion, take it or leave it and flame away.

Unfortunately you're right. Within any church organization or belief system there is the tendency, driven by the wolves in sheep's clothing, to tear down others. The agenda is Satanic and is designed as an attempt to minimize, obscure, and otherwise demean the body of Christ.

Sometimes people look for a Church for what they can get out of it [”I don’t go to Church. I don’t get anything out of it”] Try giving your time to God.

Actually a different subject, we are not giving our time to God by going to Church, we give our time to God by doing what Jesus told us to do.

The purpose of the Church is to preach the gospel, after hearing the gospel we are supposed to go out and live it.

To follow Jesus is to love His Church.

The followers of Jesus is his Church, following Jesus is to live his gospel.

Jesus additionally said that all would know they were his disciples if they showed love among themselves. (John 13:35)
This was not the love of neighbor but as Jesus called it, “a new commandment”, that his disciples love one another as he had loved them, being willing to lay down his life for them.
How many who call themselves disciples of Jesus would willing lay down their life for a spiritual brother or sister? Yet that was a requirement of being recognized as a Christian.

Indeed and a great reminder. But consider how much greater his love that he also loved those that hated him!

Mat 5:46 If you love those who love you, do you deserve a reward? Even the tax collectors do that!
Mat 5:47 Are you doing anything remarkable if you welcome only your friends? Everyone does that!
Mat 5:48 That is why you must be perfect as your Father in heaven is perfect.

Imagine our worst enemy spitting on us, snarling at us, yelling at us, calling us names...and STILL having enough love for them that we would die for them. Wow....

Your post reminds me of my shortcomings in the eyes of God, my humbleness (or lack thereof) and how far I still have to go. Over the last couple of years, I have resolved to make sure to read a post twice or three times before posting it, and not to attack someone personally if there can be found a way to put forth a criticism w/o making it personal.* Thanks for your post.

Thank you for sharing your insight. I too struggle with wanting to stand up for Christ and at the same time recognizing what is wounded pride and arrogance and responding that way versus what and how Christ wants us to communicate. It's not always easy.

"The purpose of the Church is to preach the gospel, after hearing the gospel we are supposed to go out and live it."

With apologies, if that is all there is, you can hear the Gospel at home on TV and radio.

You have to be careful who you talk to. But that's why proverbs says in chapter 26 verse 4 and 5:” Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou also be like unto him. Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own conceit.”

Good scriptures!

“You’ve seen them. They’ll post derogatory things about others and their faith. The purpose isn’t to defend their own faith which often is hidden or not evident. . The purpose is to satisfy their hunger for division, acrimony and blood. “

It amazes me that a cultist can turn around a warning against false teachers and try to twist it to apply to Christians. Yes, it took a lot of words, but you did it!

Is this about Mormonism?

No, it's about wolves in sheep's clothing. Those who don't exhibit any evidence of the fruit of the spirit of God.

If so, don’t worry the truth shall set you free. And FR is about truth. It’s our mission. Wouldn’t have it any other way.

Absolutely the truth of Christ will set us free from our sin and death penalty for it:

Joh 8:24 For this reason I told you that you'll die because of your sins. If you don't believe that I am the one, you'll die because of your sins."

Joh 8:32 You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."
Joh 8:33 They replied to Jesus, "We are Abraham's descendants, and we've never been anyone's slaves. So how can you say that we will be set free?"
Joh 8:34 Jesus answered them, "I can guarantee this truth: Whoever lives a sinful life is a slave to sin.

Being a slave to Christ is freedom indeed....

God bless.

God bless you too...
