I wasn't referencing the songs as much as the Birth of Christ frankly often left out of the “hype” of the performers and their stage presence..... And BTW those songs had a clear message anyone could relate to and understand... and still do......

I am not opposed to various venues of song and accompaniment...I am opposed when the affect clearly leaves Christ's Birth behind the scene as an afterthought. ..and it's totally about the rhythm and hype of the “lights, camera action” performance where the “show” supersedes the event being celebrated.

There is little "room" for the Spirit of God to move the hearts and minds when it's all about the stage show and those seeking their own Glory as was the case at the service I attended....with smoking floors, air splits by the worship team and "yelling" the song, with music so loud you could not begin to distinguish what was being sung. All of which was a huge distraction and did nothing to raise ones mind and heart to the things of God.

As my other posts reference...there is a difference between those leading a worship service and those simply performing for their own benefit and self glory....which is clearly evidenced.

“I’m sorry to disappoint you, but those of us who like more traditional music are not dying off.”

Oh, yes, I’m one of them, and we are dying off. I’m just not so narrow in my taste, nor do I want to dictate my tastes on others. I too am disappointed some young rockers leading music in worship don’t present our traditional stuff. I see in many churches the traditional hymns are no longer played, much to the loss of their congregations. Those young rockers have the same selfish attitude I see in you, only with a different taste in music.

Are you willing to be an advocate for the inclusion of quality traditional hymns in modern worship, or are you sticking by your guns and want your ban?

I may sound hopelessly square, but one hymn that I would put back in the Methodist hymnal is John Dykes' "Eternal Father, Strong to Save" (1861). This song may not be hip enough for young folks or politically correct enough for our times, but many Methodists still love it and are not happy that it was removed.

Keep it out. This isn't 1861. This is 2014!

If you’re going to ban something, why not ban all music that came out before the Beatles? Believe me, 90% or more of us on FR wouldn’t miss it.

Unfortunately, the totally false stereotype of conservatives sipping sherry while listening to harpsichord music of the 1700s persists.

“If you’re going to ban something, why not ban...”

You don’t think I want to ban anything, do you?
