First of all, nobody wants to “whip Frankie”. The problem is that time and time again, the Pope says controversial and/or peculiar things that the Vatican has to “clarify”. In this case, he’s just making up things Mary might have thought. Attributing things to Mary that are concocted in his imagination rather than taken from scripture and in the process implying that she might have viewed God as a liar is naturally controversial. He could just as easily have speculated that she was hungry and wishing for a sandwich, which would have been similarly pointless.

Personally I think the entire anti-Christian left wants to
“whip Frankie” for everything he believes and says. that was my semi-sarcastic close to my post.

The main issue is that what he is insinuating is that the Immaculate Conception (Mary) isn’t really the Immaculate Conception. The Immaculate Conception doesn’t sin, doesn’t doubt God and doesn’t think about doubting God.

We all know that the Protestants on this board don’t agree with the Dogma of the Immaculate Conception (I’m not even interested in trying to convince them to in this thread), but Catholics are supposed to and the Pope certainly shouldn’t be suggesting anything that would lead others to believe that that dogma just isn’t quite right.

‘Cuz Mary might have thought God was a liar at the foot of the Cross.

Um,wut????

And yes the usual hear no evil, see no evil Catholics will continue to ignore, defend make up excuses, etc etc before they stop and actually think about what Francis just said!

“In this case, he’s just making up things Mary might have thought”.

You mean sorta like the “Rapture”, which is nothing in the world but nonsense and certainly not scriptural.
