When I study the thinking involved when I sin, I doscover it nearly always is associated with first struggling not to sin, then instead of placing faith in Christ, concentrating only upon not sinning, which results in my relying on my avoidance of sin for righteousness, instead of relying on His Providence in handling temptation.

Likewise, when I observe Christians demanding we persevere otherwise we really aren’t saved, I also see them rejecting what Christ provided in the Cross to instead favor their volition and perseverance to avoid sin, instead of faith in Christ. It’s a self-fulfilling prophecy of falling out of fellowship.

That doesn't exactly characterize the process I see in scripture. It's more of a self examination process:

2Co_13:5 Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you are disqualified.

Heb 3:12 Beware, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God;
Heb 3:13 but exhort one another daily, while it is called "TODAY," lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.

Beware means to take heed, to pay attention.

The approach I see in scripture and use is to ask the Lord to show me my sins. Psa 139:23 Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my anxieties;
Psa 139:24 And see if there is any wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting.

To make sure I'm not being deceived by another spirit or practicing self deception verify it against God's written laws.

Rom_7:7 What shall we say then? Is the law sin? Certainly not! On the contrary, I would not have known sin except through the law. For I would not have known covetousness unless the law had said, "YOU SHALL NOT COVET."

Repent of it and ask the Lord Jesus Christ to remove the sin and help us overcome it.

Heb 4:14 Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.
Heb 4:15 For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.
Heb 4:16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
