Lagos, Nigeria, Dec 5, 2013 / 01:02 pm (CNA).- After a shipwreck off the coast of Nigeria, a 29-year-old man survived three days at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean while constantly reciting a psalm his wife mentioned to him during their last conversation.
Harrison Okene was a Nigerian cook on the tugboat Jascon 4, which was one of three vessels pulling an oil tanker. It capsized and sank about 32 kilometers off the coast of Nigeria in late May with its 12 crew members aboard.
Although the shipwreck occurred in May, a video of the dramatic rescued surfaced this week and was published by the Associated Press on YouTube.
The video shows Okene being found alive by divers who were inspecting the shipwreck.
Okene was in the bathroom when the boat sank 100 feet to the ocean floor. He was trapped in an air pocket, where he remained for three days reciting a passage from Psalm 54: Oh God, by your name save me...The Lord sustains my life.

It seems to me this is an old story. Much older than the date on this printing.
The Lord did indeed sustain him.
Thank you.
Yep, sounds like an old story. Last time I heard it, the person was in the belly of a whale.
And Jonah fled Nineva on his way to Tarshish. Fell asleep in the boat as Jesus did, but this time there was no peace be still. What manner of man was this? Just a very real prophet who was not willing to do the Lords work until the storm changed his mind and he begged them to throw him overboard. And immediately the storm became calm and the great Fish opened his mouth where the prophet prayed in the belly of the “whale” until he was spit out on the land of Ninevah where they worshiped fish and must have seen an awesome site where the preacher whose hair was bleached preached death and destruction on the whole city. Only to have them repent and their beasts fasted as well until God changed his mind and the prophet became angry that God showed them mercy and made him look bad.
Wouldn’t the air have run out? How did he survive?
Praise be to GOD!
