There are a thousand excuses for leaving the Catholic Church, but it really boils down to two; poor Catechesis, or un confessed sin. The latter usually revolves around sex, abortion, or birth control.

Please, also keep in mind that if you have abandoned the church and embraced Sola Scriptura, you’re in trouble. Individuals were not given the charism of infallibility. That’s why we have 30,000 contradictory Protestant sects. If they were are infallible interpreters of the scriptures, they would all agree. It was the Holy Catholic Church, the church founded by Jesus Christ, that was endowed with infallibility. Jesus Christ’s church needs the charism of infallibility; otherwise, it cannot teach the necessary ingredients, faith and morals, that are necessary for salvation. Remember that the church, the Holy Catholic Church, is the mother of the Bible, and not the other way around.
