I would guess that that definition would put the Torah and only the Torah at the very center of that Jewish universe.

Then I'm sure you'll want to pay particular attention to this verse in the Torah in Deuteronomy:

Deuteronomy 18:15 "The Lord thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken"

I do pay attention to Duet. with this in mind: No Torah, no God. No Torah no Duet. or Jesus. No Jews, No Torah.

The Authority of the Torah is in the fact that it is unchanged in any way manner shape or form since the first moment it came to the earth. That takes Jews.
