The less of these “ceremonies” the better. What prevented them from meeting in a conference hall of some kind? This was an inter faith ceremony, not a conference.

Right. For example, a university could provide a venue, or VFW, or some other setting suitable for interfaith gatherings.

All the more reason not to hold it in a Catholic cathedral. Let them celebrate in a Unitarian church.
