I am not catholic but was raised by a Pentecostal pastor, however........why would someone go to a church where they don’t believe in the sermons/mass?
Have a hard time wrapping my mind around that.

God is powerful. The personalities are incidental.

The scandal of Magdalene ... some wonder why belong to a Church which has people like that! Those like you who live the Gospel ... you can understand it.

The Scandal of Judas ... more difficult ... how could anyone belong to a Church that had Judas as one of the original chosen 12? A mystery ... yet he was not expelled. There have always been Judases ... It must be pride that thinks I deserve better and I should get out of a church full of Judases. It's a cross.
