My advice would be to bring a crossword or book or rosary beads and just ignore the sermon once it starts going in a direction you don't like. The second half of Mass is why we go, the first is more or less gravy.

On the other hand we just returned from our Vigil Mass which was said by the most liberal priest in our parish. Not a word about immigration, although we did pray at the beginning of the Mass for peace in Syria and throughout the world.

For reference, I'm in the Philadelphia archdiocese.

Good points. I’m in the Harrisburg diocese, but that’s a sprawling one, geographically.
