These people were buried in the Catacombs, meaning they were martyred christains....
meaning they are saints, not requiring Church canonization...
and they were adorned by nuns who were praising Christ by these acts, which is what churches do when they build long-lasting cathedrals of great expense....
like the Sistine chapel that shocks everyone with it’s beauty for Christ.
But we take your slaps for Christ with love. The gold “wasted” on these martyrs is the same as the perfume wasted on Jesus’ feet....wasted on Christ, and for that, these martyrs would have appreciated the nuns’ intentions....
For God’s greater glory, the Church provided these saints relics to plundered and raped Catholic Churches to spring hope eternal in JC.
Nicely put.
Yikes, you guys can justify most anything.
I guess the fact that I am a saint since I am born again and considered righteous by God thru Christ’s death and resurrection is not good enough. It certainly is for me. I’ve no need of any of that kind of stuff either in life or death and neither do any of the rest of us, martyred or not.
Any religion can carry things to an extreme as in this case or the Word of Faith/Prosperity stuff. Neither are the ideal. And Mary was anointing Christ’s feet, which is a whole different kettle of fish (no pun intended). No man other than Jesus is to be treated with such reverence. There are ways to show love and reverence for our fellow believers (in life and in death) and not go to such extremes of ostentatiousness.
.
Acts 7:49 Heaven is my throne, and earth is my footstool: what house will ye build me? saith the Lord: or what is the place of my rest?
Acts 7:50 Hath not my hand made all these things?
Acts 17:24 God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands;
Acts 17:25 Neither is worshipped with men's hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things;
As loath as I am to get in the middle of this, I have to point out that not everyone buried in the catacombs was a martyr.
“The gold wasted on these martyrs is the same as the perfume wasted on Jesus feet....wasted on Christ, and for that, these martyrs would have appreciated the nuns intentions....”
I hate to break it to you, but the martyrs had already passed this mortal coil. The only thing the nuns were adorning was dust, so the “perfume” argument is spurious.
