Okay...I need that recipe!
I would like a copy too, and can it be done on a smoker?
Certainly.
Fresh leg of lamb. Set in cooking pan or cookie sheet (with high sides to contain the fat). Fat side up
Sharp paring knife - cut several thousand pockets into the meat and insert whole garlic cloves (as many as you can). A handful or two of coarse kosher salt sprinkled over top.
Middle rack of the oven. 500F for 45 minutes. 400F for 40 minutes. Let sit for 10 minutes. When the fat starts to collect in the pan, slick up quartered potatoes or carrots or whole garlic heads or whatever you like roasted. Keep it basted.
Slice horizontally - that way every slice is the same level of doneness. Also, when it comes time to reheat the leftovers, you won’t be overdoing the meat.
Don’t be timid. Your taste buds will love you for it.
