IMO if you want to discuss beliefs then you need to ask "what do you believe?" not "what church do you attend?" Case in point: I myself attest to The Westminister Confession of Faith. Knowing that, you could easily discuss each of the thirty-three chapters with me, one by one without making it personal in any way. For that matter, you could even discuss it without me if you choose, because the topic is the belief, not the believer.
You can do this with anyone, and you would know more about things that people actually believe, and why they believe them, than you would know had you asked for the name of the church or denomination that people attend. That is, you can if you're interested in discussing beliefs, and not harassing people into leaving FR.
Go on, give it a try.
Well said.....
Maybe I misinterpreted the reason for the question (granted it’s tough to keep track of 500+ post threads), but I got the impression that the reason why you and other protestants were asked what church you belonged to was because the Bible says that the Church is the pillar of truth (versus the Bible).
Well, at least we are honest about what church we belong to, making it easy to make the argument,
“Hey guyz you must support child abuse” which protestants have actually already said. Apparently we’ve never heard that old canard again.
Protestants seem to believe that it’s more honest TO NEVER REVEAL what church they actually belong to. Why, I don’t know.
So, balls in your court. :) Or are all of you in one person ‘unique flower churches’?
How hard is it to say, “I’m Reformed”?
I’m sorry that you feel people asking, “what are your beliefs” is construed as a personal attack. It’s not.
And besides, the original post wasn’t directed at you.
