I just did a little reading on Google and realized The Jesuits was nonfiction. I can’t remember now which book it was that we were talking about. It was a long time ago. It was about Liberation Theology in part. Maybe it was The Decline and Fall of the Roman Church. That one WAS faction. In fact the dates don’t work properly for The Jesuits in terms of where I was at the time.

He was a man you could have a real conversation with at a New York cocktail party, which is saying a lot. He listened to every word you said, not looking around to see who else he could talk to who might be more important than me. I remember no one came up to interrupt us either, so we must have looked quite involved in our discussion. He was intense and full of truth, even while denying who his fictional characters were. I had the feeling there was something he wanted to impart to me also. A man of enormous sensitivity and graciousness. There was not one awkward second when we finally let go of our discussion. I think I did read the Jesuits afterward.
