A friend of mine was showing a Southern Baptist neighbor around the Catholic Church. She explained the Stations of the Cross, the crucifix, the image of the Blessed Mother and the saints.
Then they came to the image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The Baptist was bemused.
“Why do y’all have a statue of Jesus with his heart on the outside?”
“Well,” said the Catholic lady sweetly, “You Baptists like to ask Jesus into your heart right?”
“That’s right.”
“We like to ask Jesus to take us into his heart.”
Perfect apologetics. Welcoming and kind and working from what the other person knows to what they have yet to discover.
Here’s a poem for the Solemnity today:
My true love hath my heart and I have his,
By just exchange one for another given;
I hold his dear, and mine he cannot mis,
There never was a better bargain driven.
My true love has my heart and I have his.
His heart in me keeps him and me in one,
My heart in him his thoughts and senses guides
He loves my heart, for once it was his own,
I cherish his, because in me it bides.
My true love has my heart and I have his.

Well, Theresa, I'm very sure that is why you are not taken seriously.
Peace be to you.
The command was not to bow down and worship false idols. The Bronze serpent was acceptable UNTIL Israel began to treat it as a false god. Please keep in mind that words mean things and that the word idol means an image or other material object representing a deity to which religious worship is addressed. ( http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/idol?s=t&path=/)
Regardless of how it may appear Catholics do not worship anyone or anything except the Trinity. Anyone that says other wise is lying or is trying to engage in mind reading which is against the forum rules.
I don’t agree and I have a lot of thoughts, but I’m about to board a plane and it is likely I won’t be back online for a couple of weeks. So, thank you for the discussion. Maybe I can respond when I get home. The main thing is we aren’t saved by doctrine, we are saved by Christ.
God bless!
The problem isn't necessarily that people were illiterate and the books were expensive. In those days, the Catholic church prohibited private individuals from even OWNING a copy of Scripture. You are absolutely correct, metmom.
The Catholic Church's hierarchy wanted to have strong and complete control over their followers which is why they did not want them to have scriptures to read. Heck, they might understand them and not have to buy salvation from the Church!
Yews because some of those copies were such poor translations (like "Yews", what's that translate to...*snerk*) that no one would want them.
John Wycliffe did a good job, and his translations were used for fuel to burn Hus at the stake.
You say "some" were poor translations and no one would want them (so what's the problem there?) so keep ALL scriptures from the people? What ever works to keep the masses ignorant of the saving grace of Jesus Christ.
I have told you the truth, if you choose to ignore it, that is your choice.
Indeed an excellent post! Thanks for the ping.
You seen to make it clear that you reject the truth, and support the horrible tortureous deaths of those who dared to go against the Church of the Catholics.
If you choose to ignore truth and facts, that is your choice.
Please don't snerk me.
I did not “snerk” you, please re-read my post. As I said I presented you the truth, you have made your choice.
Notice how God says not to use the way of the pagans to serve Him? Even the RCC itself says they have incorporated pagan practices into their religion.
We need not shrink from admitting that candles, like incense and lustral water, were commonly employed in pagan worship and the rites paid to the dead. But the Church from a very early period took them into her service, just as she adopted many other things indifferent in themselves, which seemed proper to enhance the splendor of religious ceremonial. We must not forget that most of these adjuncts to worship, like music, lights, perfumes, ablutions, floral decorations, canopies, fans, screens, bells, vestments etc. were not identified with any idolatrous cult in particular; but they were common to almost all cults (Catholic Encyclopedia, III, 246.)
When we give or receive Christmas gifts; or hang green wreaths in our homes and churches, how many of us know that we are probably observing pagan customs...the god, Woden, in Norse Mythology, descends upon the earth yearly between December 25th and January 6th to bless mankind...But pagan though they be, they are beautiful customs. They help inspire us with the spirit of 'good will to men', even as the sublime service of our Church reminds us of the peace on earth which the babe of Bethlehem came to bestow (Externals of the Catholic Church, 140).
Catholics cant deny that the RCC has incorporated pagan practices into its practices. The RCC itself admits that it does. The RCC refuses to hear the words of the Lord.
As for the word that thou hast spoken unto us in the name of the LORD, we will not hearken unto thee. But we will certainly do whatsoever thing goeth forth out of our own mouth, to burn incense unto the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto her, as we have done, we, and our fathers, our kings, and our princes, in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem: for then had we plenty of victuals, and were well, and saw no evil. (Jer.44:16-17)
The RCC will, just as Israel did, experience the wrath of God for disobeying His word. The admonition in Revelation to come out of her my people is for those who truly want to listen to God.
Catholics cant deny that the RCC has incorporated pagan practices into its practices. The RCC itself admits that it does. The RCC refuses to hear the words of the Lord.
CB I am pinging A more perfect union in on this. I am going to sit back with a bowl of popcorn and let the two of you settle this. I mean if it is bad for the Catholics how much worse is it for protestants to do the exact same thing (Plus snake handling, Homosexual marriages, and priestesses).
The problem any Catholic would have is that Moses made the bronze serpent at GOD'S command. It wasn't Moses' idea. It wasn't something the Israelites used or incorporated in their worship that God later approved. Read and learn. God commanded Moses to make that serpent and the people didn't bow down to it or serve it. They merely had to look at it.
Numbers 21:7-9 7 And the people came to Moses and said, We have sinned, for we have spoken against the Lord and against you. Pray to the Lord, that he take away the serpents from us. So Moses prayed for the people. 8 And the Lord said to Moses, Make a fiery serpent and set it on a pole, and everyone who is bitten, when he sees it, shall live. 9 So Moses made a bronze serpent and set it on a pole. And if a serpent bit anyone, he would look at the bronze serpent and live.
And just how old are you anyway?
Is there something about *Protestants don't have priests* that is too hard to understand?
Revelation 17:1 And there came one of the seven angels which had the seven vials, and talked with me, saying unto me, Come hither; I will shew unto thee the judgment of the great whore that sitteth upon many waters: 2 With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication. 3 So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns. 4 And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication: 5 And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.
Cult indoctrination runs deep and establishes roots.
And questioned your use phraseology which you choose not to comment on.
Therefore the truth and facts stand apart from your statements.
No you did not “snerk” me, I saw it on other posts and it's pretty scary...
Thanks for not snerking me.
“Laughing in a superior manner,” quite routine from those that strongly support the Catholic belief system.
Do nothing from rivalry or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.____ Philippians 2:3
“Regardless of how it may appear Catholics do not worship anyone or anything except the Trinity. Anyone that says other wise is lying or is trying to engage in mind reading which is against the forum rules. “
I’m sure you are right in the majority of cases... but to claim that all Catholics do not worship icons, statues, bones, etc. would require you to be a mind-reader also. Based on what one can observe from the outside only, I often see things that indeed look like worship. Is it? I leave it to God.

Viewing art and worshipping, “adoring”, kissing, etc. are two vastly different things. I’ve yet to see a Protestant bow before artwork, kiss it, etc. In other words, they do not “do the exact same thing”.
I can only assume that (perhaps) you believe all Protestants are identical? Only the Anglicans (designed as Catholicism Lite) have priests that I know about. The rest of Protestants have nothing similar that I know about. So I will leave them to the side. Of course there are Protestant groups that support homos - just read Revelation and you will see Christ is perfectly capable of removing their lampstand. We just separate from the cancer here on earth. He will take care of those groups.
By the way, I may be wrong, but the only snake handlers that exist are back in the mountains. Maybe you have a few hundred? At least they have one passage of scripture to support their practice...
