My experience, back in the years following Vatican II, was having my Bible snatched by a nun and being scolded for having purchased one. Eventually it was returned to my mom. Since that day, I have read the Bible on my own, at home. I did not carry my Bible around other people until after I started attending a Southern Baptist church. So, from my experience, limited as it is, it seems like it is radical for Catholic kids to read the Bible. I know things have changed a lot, but not too long ago I taught science at a Catholic school and was told I could not have my New King James withing sight of the students!!!
Same experience for me too!
In 12 years of Catholic school I never saw a bible read any where in school. We never read the bible in religion class.
The only time we were exposed to scripture were the several verses read at church. I assume our religion class books did have some verses, but anyone carrying a bible would have been looked at very oddly.
In parochial school in the 60s we were required to have a Bible for theology class.
was told I could not have my New King James withing sight of the students!!!
You do realize that the KJV; which showed up over 12 centuries after the original, is an abridged, heavily edited, corrupted text, right?
