I don’t think it’s radical at all. But I’ve been shouted down by some catholics for suggesting it.
As best I can gather, these people think that the Bible needs to be explained by professional clergy much the same way Tom Brokaw says the media should ‘filter’ the news for us.
I think God can speak for Himself.
and that's why there is uniformity of belief among all of the Protestant denominations put there.
As a Protestant, I never just handed my kids a Bible and said here, read this... we have always guided them... plus we had them study the Puritan catechism written by Charles Spurgeon... they memorized each question and answer... and then were required to explain each answer using scripture...

Indeed He can but the poor comprehension skills of the reader is the problem, just as Scripture teaches.

Pffft. Those fools and their demands for some sort of canonical teaching of scripture.
Well, I'm off to my local Westboro Baptist Church. Gonna be a great sermon today on how the Bible says God hates fags.
I'm rather amused by those who claim that the Bible is too hard to understand, therefore needs an interpreter so that it's not misunderstood.
Problem is, then, who is going to interpret the interpretation to make sure the interpretation is not misunderstood?

Amen, and do it in such a way as to make Himself clearly understood. There is so much of the Bible that is easy enough for a child to understand, that if one even ignored all the *hard* parts, one could spend a lifetime getting to know God better just from what they DO understand.
Who shouted you down? I have never heard such a thing.
