Rick Warren’s Son Commits Suicide

ick Warren’s son has taken his own life. Matthew Warren, 27, had struggled with mental illness before his death.

Evangelist Greg Laurie posted an e-mail the Saddleback Church pastor sent to this staff: “Only those closest knew that he (Matthew) struggled from birth with mental illness, dark holes of depression, and even suicidal thoughts. In spite of America’s best doctors, meds, counselors, and prayers for healing, the torture of mental illness never subsided. Today, after a fun evening together with Kay and me, in a momentary wave of despair at his home, he took his life.” Click here to read a prayer request Rick Warren e-mailed to his staff.

Prayers and condolences are flooding into Warren’s Facebook page. And Laurie also expressed his heartfelt pain over Warren’s loss.

Do you really think Ephesians 4:11 lists EVERYTHING God has given us? Seriously??

just wow, what could have caused this?

There can be no explanation when mental illness is the cause. A very good friend of mine has a history of mental illness, his daughter suffers from it also and is on medication and has been advised not to have children, and his only son committed suicide at the age of 32.

Contrary to what a few folks on this site who will show up shortly have to say about suicide and selfishness, it is a medical illness caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain.........

My prayers go out to Mr. Warren's family and every other family that has had to face the loss of a loved one due to this insidious, self destructive disease.......

There is a third possibility beside selfishness and the equally fashionable diagnosis of chemical imbalance, and that is natural response to life’s difficulties.

Too late.

I already had some before awakening to this tragic fact of these our times.

Now there is, for me at least, no bufferin’ of the cold bayer pain of truth.

We live in a state of grace. We are God’s even in suicide.

“Medicine” helps no one.

Then either your God is evil or you are a religious wacko.........

Rather than condemn God, I choose to condemn you and your false interpretation of God's word...

>> “But if “insulin is a bandaid,” then so are other medications” <<

.
I do not disagree with that.

And the fact that the brain of a depressed individual shows differences from a normal brain is no indication for turning from the ways that God prescribed to the ways of men.

Confession, repentance, and the resulting sanctification is the path to repairing that brain, and no drug or doctor can do that.

>> “Have you ever seen someone who has vegetative depression because someone told them their faith wasn’t strong enough so they quit taking their medication?” <<

Don’t know if I have or not, but the bad advise was not delivered by God. Nowhere does God’s word say that disease is due to a lack of faith; Yeshua healed by forgiving sin (that is what he said himself), and after doing so he said “Go and sin no more.”

Doesn’t that offer any clue to you? Faith Healing is a MSM canard. It doesn’t come from God’s word.

Correct, it is the result of demonic tampering with his spirit. That is why going to a doctor is worse than useless.

Then show me cases where a priest or a pastor have cured schizophrenia............

WE definitely should, because they have no healing to offer, but just life long dependance on the adversary’s answer to disease.

Crazy interpretations. I never really met anyone who thinks if you get sick you can’t call a doctor. I guess if you have a leg cramp while swiming in the ocean you can accept the help of a life guard either. Ephesians 4:11 doesn’t mention anything about lifeguards to help us. You get in a bad car wreck and you can’t let the EMSA people treat you I suppose. Who knows....

equally fashionable diagnosis of chemical imbalance, and that is natural response to life’s difficulties.

When your teenage daughter takes off her pants, squats in the middle of the kitchen floor and defecates then says "look mom, I had a baby", is that a problem with "life's difficulties" or perhaps something more sinister such as a true mental illness cause by a chemical imbalance?

>> “A superb example of this is found in pernicious anemia, the inability to absorb vitamin B12 in your food.” <<

.
No, that is an example of ignorance.

B12 is normally made in your intestine, and thus is just another disfunction that can be brought on by your spiritual condition.

Sanctification is the route to all healing. Pray to be shown what you need to correct, and correct it.

I want to assure you that unless Yeshua returns first, we will all die one day.

I'm not saying that's wrong. I'm saying that, using that line of reasoning/logic/Scripture/thinking, then all people who confess, repent, and are 'sanctified' should be disease-free. They are not. Are there other variables that I need to consider? Because I've done "all of the above," and I still have this herniated lumbar disc that hurts like the dickens sometimes. :-)

I suspect we'll never see eye-to-eye on this, so we may need to just agree to disagree.

Yet Christ tells us whoever has the son will never die. Whoever believes HAS eternal life. Right now. Right?
