We are commanded in the bible to be stewards of the earth, and to care for the poor, the widows, and the orphans. I'm not Catholic, but I don't see anything wrong with teaching that.

I get called on being a conservative hard-ass all the time, but I am a steward of the earth, and do have responsibility for the poor, the infirm, the widows and the orphans.

That comes straight out of the book. I don't know any other way to read it.

I just don't believe in stealing from other people to meet that obligation.
