Cardinal Wuerl was upbraided by the Archbishop of Saint Louis, Cdl. Burke. Cdl. Wuerl basically told him to mind his own business. Pope Benedict XVI responded by making Cdl. Burke the head of what is essentially the Catholic Supreme Court, where Burke had the authority to publicly declare himself right and Wuerl wrong. Unfortunately, Wuerl has apostolic authority as a bishop, and short of heresy, cannot be removed.
Dangus, You’ve hit on the crux of my question. Does Cardinal Burke have authority to tell the proaborts to abstain at the inaugural Mass? Or does that authority reside solely with Wuerl or the bishops in the home dioceses of these politicians?
