And this pope is -- surprise! and against all Enemedia speculations--- a Catholic.
Keep in mind that the “authority” he claims, is the authority to say what God says via Natural Law: that children have a natural right to the love and care of their father and mother, and parents have, in the light of that right, a natural authority and obligation to direct the education of their own children.

And he’s right. Parents everywhere have abdicated their responsibilties to publik government skools, and even the medical liberal establishment.
I cannot tell you how they are beating us over the head wtih the idea that we have to ask parents to leave the room when we counsel adolescents ....young people at a very vulnerable time in life ...and yet we simply are asking that WE, and not their parents, give them guidance on important isssues. Why do we have to speak to these children alone without their parents? What is there to hide?
Many parents are simply drunk, on drugs, or just plain GONE out of their children’s lives ...or one parent is gone ... or the other is more interested in watching whatever sports game is one, or what time American Idol comes on ...or how much money they made in the markets that day ...or on the golf course ...or wherever.
It’s what’s wrong with our entire world ....horrible parenting, lack of family ... look what it leads to!
Parents have the authority ....they need to reclaim it and stand up to this overbearing nanny-State crap.
