Pope: Everyone, Even Atheists, Want to See the Face of God
Asia News ^ | 1/16/13

Posted on 01/16/2013 8:57:49 AM PST by marshmallow

General audience, Benedict XVI defines the Incarnation as "something unimaginable, the face of God can be seen, the process that began with Abraham is fulfilled." The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, he asks "for the great gift" to "proclaim together that Jesus is the Savior of the world."

Vatican City (AsiaNews) - "The desire to know the face of God is in every man, even the atheists," but this desire is only realized by following Christ, in whom, in the Incarnation, "something unimaginable took place, the journey that began with Abraham is fulfilled. He is the Son, the fullness of all Revelation; the mediator who shows us the face of God. "

And "to proclaim together that Jesus is the Saviour of the world" Benedict XVI asked for incessant prayers for "the great gift" of Christian unity in the forthcoming week, which begins on the 18th of this month.

Previously, in his catechesis, he again reflected on the meaning of Christmas, in a commentary on John's Gospel in which the apostle Philip asks Jesus to show them the Father. The answer of Jesus, "introduces us to the heart of the Church's Christological faith; For the Lord says: "Whoever has seen me has seen the Father" (Jn 14:9).This expression summarizes the novelty of the New Testament, the novelty that appeared in the cave of Bethlehem: God can be seen, he showed his face is visible in Jesus Christ".

The theme of "seeking the face of God" is present throughout the Old Testament, so much so that the Hebrew term "face", occurs no less than 400 times, 100 of which refer to God." The of Jewish religion which the religion forbids all images, "for God can not be depicted," and "can not be reduced to an object," tells us that "God...

>> Following this thread shows the disunity of solo Scripture.<<

Actually, following this thread shows the disunity of following man’s teachings. There is no disunity among those who hold to scripture alone. The disunity occurs when people follow men like Calvin, Luther, Popes, Wesley, Smith, Jones, and any other “teacher” or “prophet” rather than Christ alone.

Good catch! And here I thought Jim, David and Sun were a few he counseled. ;)

We follow Christ alone.

AMEN!

Wolves do use Jesus, and they have since the beginning. Jesus warned us there would be tares amidst the wheat.

So, just because they say, “Lord, Lord”, it doesn’t impress me at all.

So, let me ask each of them again:

CB, MM, and PNSN: Speaking for yourself, Do you believe in the historic Christian doctrine of the Trinity?

You wrote: "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God."

No, John wrote it under the inspiration of The Holy Spirit. God gets all the glory, not man.

You respond with this cornpone stuff as if "to write" doesn't have a variety of usages.

And again, no answer.

You did not answer the question.

Do you believe in the Trinity?

Yes or No?

Are you afraid of what you believe?

Why is it important? Because the Trinity is the True God. Anyone claiming to know Jesus does not know the real Jesus if they do not acknowledge His true identity.

So, again, “Do you believe in the Trinity?”

This is unbelievable. When we post scripture is that so unfamiliar that you don’t recognize it? When we post scripture in answer to a question is there a disconnect as to what we believe?

All the questions you want us to answer yet you haven't identified the denomination of the church in Philadelphia.

Which man and teaching will be their final authority today? So many flavors - it’s no wonder they are confused and disunited.

Let’s pick this one, he is a good teacher and holy; no, let’s choose this one, he was an early church father; no, this one has the latest teachings; no, let’s choose this one, he knew the apostles; no, this one wrote the teachings, we need to be thankful to Rome; no, this one brought me to Jesus; no, he was the final authority then not now; oh, I didn’t get that memo, so let’s call a council to discuss this. Ok, it’s good we have this wide road then. Yeah, it’s crowded though - wonder where everyone is going?

We have concrete rules and those who don't follow them do it of their own free will. Solo Scripture has no rules-it's a "do it my way" theology

So...Catholics can say certain groups aren't acceptable to them, but we cannot.

And your sola scriptura understanding is incorrect. There are rules. In fact there is a highly refined system of scripture interpretation, and when it is not followed, such persons ARE lacking due diligence and are not considered adequate teachers/interpreters of the scripture.

Why are you avoiding the question, CB?

How many True Gods are there?

God’s word doesn’t change. Yet when we post God’s word as an answer to a question they don’t recognize it. They insist on some words penned by man.

yet you haven't identified the denomination of the church in Philadelphia.

They need the address, they are lost.

And mumbling - "what corner is it on, what's the cross street? When we get there, we will ask if they believe in the Trinity and that's all we need to know and know to ask".

Cults say the same thing.

Let’s take something simple: Baptism.

Do you believe baptism should be:

a. only by immersion

b. only by sprinkling

c. by either sprinkling or immersion

d. not practiced at all no matter the mode

>> Cults say the same thing.<<

No, cults don’t say the same thing. Cults follow a specific leader who defines their beliefs or who they quote other than Christ.

What denomination is the church in Philadelphia? If you don’t know just say so.
