Pope: Everyone, Even Atheists, Want to See the Face of God
Asia News ^ | 1/16/13

Posted on 01/16/2013 8:57:49 AM PST by marshmallow

General audience, Benedict XVI defines the Incarnation as "something unimaginable, the face of God can be seen, the process that began with Abraham is fulfilled." The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, he asks "for the great gift" to "proclaim together that Jesus is the Savior of the world."

Vatican City (AsiaNews) - "The desire to know the face of God is in every man, even the atheists," but this desire is only realized by following Christ, in whom, in the Incarnation, "something unimaginable took place, the journey that began with Abraham is fulfilled. He is the Son, the fullness of all Revelation; the mediator who shows us the face of God. "

And "to proclaim together that Jesus is the Saviour of the world" Benedict XVI asked for incessant prayers for "the great gift" of Christian unity in the forthcoming week, which begins on the 18th of this month.

Previously, in his catechesis, he again reflected on the meaning of Christmas, in a commentary on John's Gospel in which the apostle Philip asks Jesus to show them the Father. The answer of Jesus, "introduces us to the heart of the Church's Christological faith; For the Lord says: "Whoever has seen me has seen the Father" (Jn 14:9).This expression summarizes the novelty of the New Testament, the novelty that appeared in the cave of Bethlehem: God can be seen, he showed his face is visible in Jesus Christ".

The theme of "seeking the face of God" is present throughout the Old Testament, so much so that the Hebrew term "face", occurs no less than 400 times, 100 of which refer to God." The of Jewish religion which the religion forbids all images, "for God can not be depicted," and "can not be reduced to an object," tells us that "God...

Tell me mm, based upon your accepted definition from Strong on the church as being “called out”, what exactly do you think called out means?

IMO, Adam/Eve's first mistake was to listen 'another' voice. They should have kept with God ALONE.

Ah, then was it by their free choice or was it a mistake?

Following this thread shows the disunity of solo Scripture.

Thanks for posting the thread to bring this into the light.

OK. Fess up. You’re a closet Catholic, aren’t you?

Because I have had the EXACT same questions asked of me by them. The EXACT ones.

I do not belong to any denomination. mr. mm and I are affiliated with one. We attend for worship and are involved in some ministry there, but even if we were members, we would STILL not identify as (fill in the blank) but rather as Christians, believers in and followers of Jesus.

And I’ll tell you the same thing I tell the Catholics when they have pressed me for denominational affiliation. I am not giving it out because I will not reveal enough personal information that would allow someone to track me down.

Following this thread shows the disunity of solo Scripture.

No it doesn't. Because once you start bringing the teachings of the *church fathers* into it, it's no longer solo Scriptura, Scripture alone, which is not sola Scriptura.

Did the NT church have doctrinal statements? Creeds? Catechisms? Writings of the church fathers? Educated theologian? Organs?

How could it be that they could function as the church without all of the things that so many consider important?

Acts 17:11 Now these Jews were more noble than those in Thessalonica; they received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so.

Wow! Imagine that. They went to SCRIPTURE to see if what PAUL was telling them was correct. And just who did THEY depend on to lead them or did they just do that all on their own?

God also has the power to just “poof” make all saved.

You sound like the evo's with the 'poof'. God's Will is for ALL to be saved as God so loved the world that He GAVE to ALL His only Son... Did you receive?

So talking that God has the power should not be a question or an answer - GOD IS. He is the GREAT I AM. God doesn't have power - GOD IS Power.

God is the Word, He is the Spirit, He is ALL. God says, "I've set life and death before you today: both blessings and curses. Choose life, that it may be well with you—you and your children."

He gives a choice because - what God is NOT - is controlling. Man has a choice to go either way - 'their' way or God's Way. Do you, also, want a 'poof' so you don't have to choose? Hopefully, you know what the default is.

just “poof” make all saved. That He doesn’t do it makes the word “will” mean what?

God's Word is God's Will.

God also has the power to just “poof” make all saved.

If, as Calvinists state, God chooses some to be saved, that means He has the power to override man's will and save him whether taht person wants it or not.

If He can do that for some, why would He not do that for all?

I spent a career in the military counseling thousands, Cynna, and I can smell a whining, obfuscator a mile away.

Good, they you can spend another career being comfortable with the weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Do you have a problem with addressing Cynical Bear correctly? Seems the military failed when it came to counseling. Maybe that's the reason thousands need gov't counseling to begin with.

Definitions is your game, not mine. You ‘choose’ whichever one pleases you or both.

My focus is on Jesus The Word alone.

You realize, of course, that #849 is really, really illogical, don’t you?

I don’t talk to obfuscators. They should be gone, imo.

Obfuscators unwilling to identify themselves but perfectly will to shoot at others. What is that? A coward, in my book, and a person unwilling to stand for anything.

Their message is: “I’m telling you nothing about where I come from, but you’re really dumb, and I’m really smart, so you should shut up and follow me.”

I’d say some kind of Jim Jones, David Berg, Sun Myung, etc.

And ALL of them said “we follow the bible...and you don’t.”

disunity...sola scriptura

Hardly. We're dealing with a cult here.

I'm sure Roman Catholics think Dominican Matthew Fox and his creation spirituality are fine examples of Roman Catholicism.

And Santeria, too, for that matter....also derived from Roman Catholicism.

So, you don’t want to identify yourself.

Do you all believe in the Trinity: that God is 3 in 1, that the Father is not the Son who is not the Holy Spirit who is not the Father, but that all are one God?

Keep focused. This thread is not about labeling people and who you talk to or not. No one is interested.

Their message is: “I’m telling you nothing about where I come from, but you’re really dumb, and I’m really smart, so you should shut up and follow me.” ...I’d say some kind of Jim Jones, David Berg, Sun Myung, etc.

Look at that confusion - not talking to some but are so OBSESSED with them - where they live or don't live, what they say or don't say, their intelligence or lack of, the messages they leave you and their names. Amazing. And I thought the past 'election' was a mess.

Get back to God's Word, Jesus, and The Word being the Final Authority. Stay on track, that is - IF you *choose* to.

Again you have managed to write an illogical posting. First, on Free Republic folks post and respond to posts.

Is there some reason you put “choose” inside of asterisks?

Do you believe in the Trinity?

Lurking where? Over your shoulder?

Catholics, Mormons, Muslims, etc, etc, - ALL the MANY 'man made religions' think GOD alone is wrong. That's OK - MANY didn't *CHOOSE* Jesus The Word and we know that from Scripture. Now any other complaints against JESUS ALONE? Air them out, heaven is taking note.
