Do not accuse another Freeper of telling a lie, it attributes motive, i.e. the intent to decieve. It is "making it personal." Words such as "false" "wrong" "error" do not attribute motives. Discuss the issues all you want, but do not make it personal.

I never caller the FReeper a liar.

You, RM, are reading my mind !!!!!!

You are making a statement implying that
I directed the statement to a person and
made it a personal attack.

The statement that Jesus created the
Roman Catholic Church
is on its face a lie
and you should know that.

Whether a Freeper is being accused of making up a lie or repeating one, either way, it is inflammatory, i.e. it incites flamewars in religious debate.

Words such as "false" "error" and "wrong" do not attribute motive and are therefore not inflammatory.

I admit I didn't see where anyone claimed that Jesus created the Roman Catholic Church.

But it doesn’t even matter that Jesus did not call His church the Catholic Church. Just by its very nature, the church Jesus Christ established was a church for all who believed in Him. Thus, it became known as the ‘Catholic (Universal) Church’. The addition of the name ‘Catholic’ did not change the church that Jesus founded in any way.

Though Jesus never called His church the Catholic Church, He also never called anyone a Christian or used the word Christianity. The name ‘Christian’ was given to those who believed in Jesus Christ, but not by Jesus, and not until sometime after His death; just as the name ‘Catholic’ was given to His church (but not by Jesus and not until sometime after His death).

BTW, we see the first use of the word ‘Catholic’ (as related to the Church) about 15-20 years after John wrote the Book of Revelation, in a letter written by St. Ignatius – around 110 AD. Because the number of churches at this time was so large, it was only logical to unify and identify all of them under one [Universal] church with one name. So the churches were strengthened in the faith, and increased in number daily. (Acts16:5) This provided consistency and it kept all the different churches (congregations) from distorting, manipulating, or reinterpreting the ‘good news’ of Jesus Christ in order to suit their own desires.
