All Church Councils only respond to challenges. That was as true of the first Nicene Council that responded to Arius as it was of Vatican II. The Synod of Rome and Council of Hippo responded to the challenge of what is and is not Sacred Scripture by producing and affirming the Canon used by St. Jerome to produce the Vulgate. Trent responded to the Reformation's pronouncements on a reduced Canon by reaffirming what Synod of Rome and Council of Hippo had declared. The FACT is that Catholic "scholars", including St. Jerome, and apostates and non-Catholics including Luther did not speak infallibly as did the Councils as to what did and did not constitute Canon.

Anyone/anything that usurps the CC's power to control was/is a challenge to them.

God/HIS WORD IS The FINAL Authority and there is NOTHING they can do about it but continue to deceive others.

WHO is so hell bent to challenge GOD'S Word? Satan did from the beginning! Nothing new under the sun. Starting right in Genesis we learn who is behind those who challenge God's Word through deception.

The FACTS, as shown, are that Rome and the Council of Hippo were not infallible either, and thus some debate was allowed and continued until Trent finally caused it to cease.

When RCs cannot admit this it only decreases their credibility more and typically forces them to resort to ad hominem attacks.
