Count my prayers in for your friend, too.
My Dad had Parkinson's and lived his remaining years in a hospital bed, unable to move. You could see in his eyes his mind was still sharp and could recognize things. I agree with cripplecreek: It sounds like Alzheimers.
Nonetheless, God bless your friend.

Just to let you know, dementia occurs in up to 75% of patients with Parkinson’s.
