To: Hillarys Gate Cult
Found it. It's ancient. Due to it's links to superstition, I can see no way it would be freely used in public in the Middle East. In the six years I lived in Saudi Arabia, I never saw it used or mentioned.

Those are all over the place in the street markets of the Old City of Jerusalem. My guess is they’ve become a good souvenir item for all the stupid tourists. Definitely superstitious in origin though.
