Until the First Amendment came along, you couldn't preach without a license. Even so, many "established" denominations of today would not let Whitfield preach from their pulpits. He'd be preaching against remarriage adultery, Sodomy, women "ministers," Romanism, etc. I suppose instead of being thought of as a radical, he'd be seen as a regressive, a fully committed one, a revisionist back to Biblical standards. Like me.
The IRS threatening Churches based on the content of sermons preached would be just one example.
