As an Evangelical, I agree, but I’d go a step farther. Those claiming to be “Christians”, who support same sex “marriage” and/or abortion should, after being given correction and an opportunity to repent, should be disfellowshipped/ex-communicated. No church member should even be allowed to eat with them.
When open sin is allowed to go unchecked in the church it spreads to others and misrepresents Christ and His church to the world. It also allows the “believer” to hold onto the eternally, tragically, false impression that he/she is “saved” and will spend eternity in Heaven, rather than in Hell.
Upon repentance (which is the goal or all church discipline) they would, of course, be joyfully welcomed back.
