It’s just that very few Jews agree with either of us.
For example, the country's leading Jewish journal of opinion -- Commentary magazine -- is staunchly neoconservative. The Republican Jewish coalition is now a well-funded and well-organized PAC and advocacy group. And, most prominently among the growing number of major Jewish conservative donors, billionaire Sheldon Adelson donates massively to conservative GOP candidates and causes.
About a year ago, at a friend's request, I went to the house of an elderly Jewish woman and fixed her computer. Friendly and engaging, she soon started talking politics, making clear that she was very left-wing, even an admirer of the USSR! I chuckled and told her that I was much the other way, an anti-communist and a conservative Republican. She said that I would no doubt like her youngest granddaughter, who was also a conservative Republican. She sighed and said that she did not understand why Jews were becoming so conservative!
