The considerable majority of Jews in America are not Orthodox. Most I believe are not particularly observant at all. They are “cultural” Jews.
Orthodox Jews have their own problems. Many of their attitudes towards the outside world and towards women, among other things, have more in common with Islam than with modern American society.
This is not entirely a bad thing, as modern American society has a good many serious problems.
And to me, the poster boy for non-observant "cultural Jews" is: David Axelrod, senior advisor to the President.
That dude is a "pure" atheist, plain and simple.
It seems to me truly observant Jews tend to cultural/political conservatism. Certainly that is the case with the followers of the Rebbe I have met.
The ones, like Axelrod who for whatever reason despise God and His Law are our worst nightmare....
