Please do not expect immediate major changes, but even this appointment represents a major, and very positive change. Archbishop Cordileone is a no nonsense, hard as nails orthodox priest. He is young and does not lack the vigor and stamina for the challenge as so many aging bishops do. He is a Canon lawyer and speaks softly, but deliberately. Like his name implies he will be an iron fist in a velvet glove.
My only disappointment is that, as a member of the Diocese of Oakland, we are losing him, but I am sure that Pope Benedict will give us someone equally qualified.
