Former US President Jimmy Carter has disclosed that he had angry exchanges with Pope John Paul II about liberation theology and about the ordination of women.
The former president said that he complained to the Pontiff about the Churchs perpetuation of the subservience of women while Blessed John Paul II was visiting the US in 1978, and there was more harshness when we turned to the subject of liberation theology. Carter said that he classified the Pope as a fundamentalist, placing him in that category along with Irans late Ayatollah Khomeini.
In the same interview Carter said that it is very fine for gay people to be married in civil ceremonies, although he suggestedmaybe arbitrarilythat churches should not be required by law to solemnize same-sex unions.
Carter made his remarks as he introduced a new edition of the Bible with his own study notes, helping readers to follow his understanding of the Scriptures.

Jimmy Carter: on the wrong side of history yet again.
And a man with the worst judgement of any president outside of the current one...
America should have elected Billy instead.
I look forward to this day:

That is true, and Ronnie deserves credit...but he would also be the first to acknowledge and celebrate that the overwhelming moral authority of the Polish Pope, in his pilgimage to his homeland, disarmed Jaruszelski and defeated the totalitarians without a shot being fired.
When the communists saw the tsunami of love and determination from his countrymen they knew they were licked, that neither Soviet tanks nor the gates of Hell could answer to the power represented by the Blessed JPII.
When Jummah Cahtah’s mother Lillian made the statement, “Sometimes when I look at my children, I say to myself, ‘Lillian, you should have remained a virgin!’” She wasn’t just whistlin’ Dixie!

The Pope then paused before adding, "Tell your Uncle Teddy I will pray for his soul too."
Carter was upset and stormed off muttering, "Who does this stupid Pollack think he is? God's Vicar on Earth?"
A very accurate description of Carter is Marxist Fundamentalist, or would Progressive Fundamentalist have a better ring to it?
What an embarrasment to Protestants.
That’s pretty harsh thing for a mother to say about her children.Sometimes the truth really hurts.
The pic was from FR back in 2009 playing on the actual racist commentary of Jimmah: Are Obama's critics racist? Jimmy Carter thinks so
and taking that to the losing Olympic bid story ala El Rushbo: 0bama failed in Copenhagen ...
Correct me if I’m wrong but the treasonous bastard has never complained about Muslim subjugation of women.
Another reason to like Pope John Paul. Carter is a real class A jerk.
I probably already know this, but which one was for liberation theology and which one was against it?
The actual statement was: “I think an overwhelming portion of the intensely demonstrated animosity toward President Barack Obama is based on the fact that he is a black man, that he is African-American.” He made the comment after Congressman Joe Wilson said “You lie.”
“The Catholic Church oppresses women by not ordaining them, Mr. President?
“Please. Tell me more.”
JP in photo needs a thought-bubble: “Please, Heavenly Father, give me the patience to tolerate this twit.”
