Founder would be derided as Preachers! Modern American education would convey that, but not history:

John Adams — Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.”

"Without Religion this World would be Something not fit to be mentioned in polite Company, I mean Hell."

John Quincy Adams — “In the chain of human events, the birthday of the nation is indissolubly linked with the birthday of the Savior. The Declaration of Independence laid the cornerstone of human government upon the first precepts of Christianity.”

"We have staked the whole future of American civilization, not on the power of government...[but] upon the capacity of each and every one of us to govern ourselves according to the Ten Commandments of God."

Samuel Adams — “I conceive we cannot better express ourselves than by humbly supplicating the Supreme Ruler of the world . . . that the confusions that are and have been among the nations may be overruled by the promoting and speedily bringing in the holy and happy period when the kingdoms of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ may be everywhere established, and the people willingly bow to the scepter of Him who is the Prince of Peace.”

John Hancock — called on the entire state to pray “that universal happiness may be established in the world [and] that all may bow to the scepter of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the whole earth be filled with His glory.”

John Adams — “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other."

"We have no government armed with power capable of contending with passions unbridled by morality and religion."

"Statesmen may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone, which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand."

James Madison — "No power over the freedom of religion [is] delegated to the United States by the Constitution."

Elias Boudinot President of Congress — “Let us enter on this important business under the idea that we are Christians on whom the eyes of the world are now turned… [L]et us earnestly call and beseech Him, for Christ’s sake, to preside in our councils. . . . We can only depend on the all powerful influence of the Spirit of God, Whose Divine aid and assistance it becomes us as a Christian people most devoutly to implore. Therefore I move that some minister of the Gospel be requested to attend this Congress every morning . . . in order to open the meeting with prayer.”

Patrick Henry — “Righteousness alone can exalt America as a nation. Whoever thou art, remember this; and in thy sphere practice virtue thyself, and encourage it in others.”

The great pillars of all government and of social life [are] virtue, morality, and religion. This is the armor, my friend, and this alone, that renders us invincible.”

John Jay — “By conveying the Bible to people . . . we certainly do them a most interesting act of kindness.”

I recommend a general and public return of praise and thanksgiving to Him from whose goodness these blessings descend. The most effectual means of securing the continuance of our civil and religious liberties is always to remember with reverence and gratitude the source from which they flow.”

Providence has given to our people the choice of their rulers, and it is the duty as well as the privilege and interest of our Christian nation, to select and prefer Christians for their rulers.”

Benjamin Rush — “By renouncing the Bible, philosophers swing from their moorings upon all moral subjects… It is the only correct map of the human heart that ever has been published.

[T]he only means of establishing and perpetuating our republican forms of government is the universal education of our youth in the principles of Christianity by means of the Bible.”

The Bible, when not read in schools, is seldom read in any subsequent period of life… [T]he Bible… should be read in our schools in preference to all other books because it contains the greatest portion of that kind of knowledge which is calculated to produce private and public happiness.”

I do not believe that the Constitution was the offspring of inspiration, but I am as satisfied that it is as much the work of a Divine Providence as any of the miracles recorded in the Old and New Testament.”

George Washington — "I now make it my earnest prayer that God would have you, and the State over which you preside, in his holy protection...that he would most graciously be pleased to dispose us all to do justice, to love mercy, and to demean ourselves with that charity, humility, and pacific temper of mind, which were the characteristics of the Divine Author of our blessed religion, and without an humble imitation of whose example in these things, we can never hope to be a happy nation."

While we are zealously performing the duties of good citizens and soldiers, we certainly ought not to be inattentive to the higher duties of religion. To the distinguished character of Patriot, it should be our highest glory to add the more distinguished character of Christian.”

...there is no truth more thoroughly established, than that there exists in the economy and course of nature, an indissoluble union between virtue and happiness...we ought to be no less persuaded that the propitious smiles of Heaven can never be expected on a nation that disregards the eternal rules of order and right, which Heaven itself has ordained: and since the preservation of the sacred fire of liberty, and the destiny of the republican model of government, are justly considered as deeply, perhaps as finally, staked on the experiment entrusted to the hands of the American people….”

...it would be peculiarly improper to omit, in this first official act, my fervent supplications to that Almighty Being who rules over the universe, who presides in the councils of nations and whose providential aids can supply every human defect, that His benediction may consecrate to the liberties and happiness of the people of the United States a Government.” (In his Inaugural Speech, April 30, 1789)

"Reason and experience both forbid us to expect that national morality can prevail in exclusion of religious principle."

Congress, 1854 — “The great, vital, and conservative element in our system is the belief of our people in the pure doctrines and the divine truths of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.”

Abraham Lincoln — "It is the duty of nations, as well as of men, to own their dependence upon the overruling power of God and to recognize the sublime truth announced in the Holy Scriptures and proven by all history, that those nations only are blessed whose God is the Lord."

"I know that the Lord is always on the side of right. But it is my constant anxiety and prayer that I - and this nation - should be on the Lord's side.”

The philosophy of the school room in one generation will be the philosophy of the government in the next. The only assurance of our nation’s safety is to lay our foundation in morality and religion.”

But we have forgotten God. We have forgotten the gracious Hand which preserved us in peace, and multiplied and enriched and strengthened us; and we have vainly imagined in the deceitfulness of our hearts, that all these blessings were produced be some superior wisdom and virtue of our own."

Alexis de Tocqueville — “The Americans combine the notions of Christianity and of liberty so intimately in their minds, that it is impossible to make them conceive the one without the other; and with them this conviction does not spring from that barren traditionary faith which seems to vegetate in the soul rather than to live.” (Democracy in America, Volume I Chapter XVII (1835)

A quote which is disputed as to his authorship says,

Not until I went into the churches of American and heard her pulpits flame with righteousness did I understand the secret of her genius and power. America is great because America is good, and if America ever ceases to be good, America will cease to be great.”

Benjamin Franklin — “...serious religion, under its various denominations, is not only tolerated, but respected and practiced. Atheism is unknown there; Infidelity rare and secret; so that persons may live to a great age in that country without having their piety shocked by meeting with either an Atheist or an Infidel. And the Divine Being seems to have manifested His approbation of the mutual forbearance and kindness by which the different sects treat each other, and by the remarkable prosperity with which He has been please to favor the whole country.” (John Gould Curtis, American history told by contemporaries .... Volume 3, p. 26)

United States Supreme Court, 1892

Church of the Holy Trinity v. United States — “Our laws and our institutions must necessarily be based upon and embody the teachings of the Redeemer of mankind. It is impossible that it should be otherwise; and in this sense and to this extent our civilization and our institutions are emphatically Christian.”

The Continental Congress, on September 11, 1777, recommended and approved that the Committee of Commerce "import 20,000 Bibles from Holland, Scotland, or elsewhere," because of their was a great need for bibles because of a great shortage caused by the Revolutionary War.

Daniel Webster — “If there is anything in my thoughts or style to commend, the credit is due to my parents for instilling in me an early love of the Scriptures. If we abide by the principles taught in the Bible, our country will go on prospering and to prosper; but if we and our posterity neglect its instructions and authority, no man can tell how sudden a catastrophe may overwhelm us and bury all our glory in profound obscurity.”

If religious books are not widely circulated among the masses in this country, I do not know what is going to become of us as a nation. If truth be not diffused, error will be;

If God and His Word are not known and received, the devil and his works will gain the ascendancy; If the evangelical volume does not reach every hamlet, the pages of a corrupt and licentious literature will;

If the power of the Gospel is not felt throughout the length and breadth of the land, anarchy and misrule, degradation and misery, corruption and darkness will reign without mitigation or end."

Lastly, our ancestors established their system of government on morality and religious sentiment. Moral habits, they believed, cannot safely be trusted on any other foundation than religious principle, nor any government be secure which is not supported by moral habits.... Whatever makes men good Christians, makes them good citizens.”

Finally, let us not forget the religious character of our origin. Our fathers were brought hither by their high veneration for the Christian religion. They journeyed by its light, and labored in its hope. They sought to incorporate its principles with the elements of their society, and to diffuse its influence through all their institutions, civil, political, or literary."

June 17, 1843, at the Bunker Hill Monument in Charleston, Massachusetts, Webster declared,

The Bible came with them. And it is not to be doubted, that to free and universal reading of the Bible, in that age, men were much indebted for right views of civil liberty.

The Bible is a book of faith, and a book of doctrine, and a book of morals, and a book of religion, of special revelation from God; but it is also a book which teaches man his own individual responsibility, his own dignity, and his equality with his fellow-man.”

Also interesting is most catholics are going with Romney not Santorum...from what the exit pools are revealing. I understand because many catholics, though attend their church, don't agree with the teachings of the church regarding that which Santorum preaches. Contraceptive etc...and many Bishops have frewuently made it a matter not to take issue with those who take them.......Santorum dropped the ball on that one big time...but he is the more staunch, legalistic, strict and self rightous type.....when he thinks he's right because he says he is.

Romney is going to win this thing because there is no strong candidate to take him on (it’s too late now).

Just look back a year ago. The two remaining candidates trying to stop Romney, Newt and Rick, were absolutely no-bodies in terms of constituencies or followings. In fact, if you had mentioned any of these two in FR back then to elicit support for them, you would have been laughed out of the forum. Now, we’re mystified as to why none of these two can’t get any traction with the voters.

Sarah Palin had her opportunity, and she bailed. I would still vote for her, but if she was serious about doing something, she should have mixed it up with the rest of them.

Forget about any brokered convention (as much as I would prefer to see one). This game is over, and it’s over because none of these two remaining candidates deserve to be in the top stop through their own right. And it shows.

Rick is trying to make this into a religion-culture war, but that’s not what’s going to get you a majority in November.

Actually Obama and the media are pushing the religious war...along with racisim and sexual issues.....which diverts away from obmas major failures to the economy and a host of other failures as well.

Unfortunately Rick took their bait and is running on it....and he's not getting the catholic vote thus far as he hoped to.

The guy lacks understanding of the game and that he's being used and how. Which is why he's called a Lightweight. He just can't get his head around the plays in motion and it shows.

PSYCHO...Nobody’s convinced me that voting for Romney is the way to go..... Even should that mean Obama gets 4 more. I see little difference between them...besides Romney will be front man only for the leadership of his church who will be calling the shots he must play...and we can’t see what they’re up to until after the fact..... At least with Obama we can load the congress and stop him as much as possible...you can’t fight an enemy you cannot see nor know.

Seelye, in addition to reporting, she has been employed by Queen Noor of Jordan and as Manager of Media Relations for the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee.

Contrast the ongoing ‘debate’ between Newt and Obama to this stuff.

Rick has a tin ear, poor strategic skills.

Rick is a ‘good guy’ and plays for our side of the field. That being said, he’s not cut out to be ‘Captain’ of the team. He’s never demonstrated any degree of success in any tactical thinking, accomplishments in the face of adversity, nor standing up against the powers-that-be when it gets hot in the kitchen.

Amen & Amen! Most Heartily agree!

From the clips i see it seems that he presents the Bible as the supreme authority on issues, not his church.

Our English word, “messiah”, is a transliteration of a Hebrew word meaning “anointed one”, referring to the practice of anointing (which refers to a ritual of consecrating someone or something by putting holy oil upon it).

When speaking of The Messiah we mean God’s Anointed One who will bring salvation to mankind. The Greek word for Messiah is Kristos, i.e. Christ.

However, other groups have chosen to consecrate people, places or things for other purposes, sometimes nefarious & evil purposes. As you said, “Obozo is not the Messiah, but he clearly serves the father-of-lies.”

Perhaps Obama also has been anointed or consecrated by the one he serves... one diametrically opposed to the Savoir of the World, the Messiah, the Christ, Jesus of Nazareth.

“Beware of false prophets who come disguised as harmless sheep but are really vicious wolves. You can identify them by their fruit, that is, by the way they act. Can you pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? A good tree produces good fruit, and a bad tree produces bad fruit. A good tree can’t produce bad fruit, and a bad tree can’t produce good fruit. So every tree that does not produce good fruit is chopped down and thrown into the fire. Yes, just as you can identify a tree by its fruit, so you can identify people by their actions.” Matt 7:15-20 NLT

“Jesus replied, “Don’t let anyone mislead you, for many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah.’ They will deceive many. “ Mark 13:5-6 NLT

I find nothing to fault about what you stated. It is how I have also read the “book”.

He plays for our side when it's to his advantage....yes, he may be a "good guy" but he in no way is material for the Presidency. His run is his own idea though many tried to deter him and with good reasons. But Rick does what he wants when the wave is there to ride...as long as he's the "man of the moment". I simply don't like the man. My being from Pennsylvania I'm sure most can understand that....he pulled some rotten stuff here in addition to shows he enjoys while playing politics. It's no secret he isn't liked by those who know his history and style.

He was asked what main issue of the Obama adminstration would he consider most went against our constitution ....and the guy began scratching his face..with the usual ah's and oh's...then scratching his head saying, "gosh I don't know" and more head scratching before he then handed the mike to Newt to answer the question for him...and he has a history of passing the ball like that on important questions. This is a man who could not answer that significant question... who wants to be President????? I think not.

Rick’s riding a very fine line by bringing religion into this election in the way he has framed it. The average person is not looking for a preacher Daniell...and that’s how Santorum comes across and a rather self-righteous one at that.

He could have framed his remarks better, in fact much better than pounding on peoples heads as he did. Why not rather tie in the faith with out constitution and hpw our founders honored God in this nation....all people can identify with that to at least some extent.

Instead Rick brow beated any who might think other than he thinks. Heck he even lambasted the Evangelical churches!

I don’t want someone who’s going to thump peoples head with such a self -righteous attitude....rather who can be much more statesman like...which he isn’t. It’s all about being right IMO rather than inviting people to turn to God as this country once knew.

I'm from PA also, but now live across the river in Krispy Kreme territory. You read him right. I got the sense that he ran for President, not out of any deep conviction to set anything straight, but mostly it appeared... just because 'he' just wanted to be 'President'. I suppose you could say that for most of the other folks, but there should also be some prime 'motivating' factor that shows clearly 'why' one wants to 'be' President, and with Rick there's never been one, for me at least.

Exactly...Rick will frame whatever is necessary to appeal to the moment that will "lift" him to the next level he's decided might be beneficial for himself. He enjoys the visibility and one of the reasons he ran was to be 'known'to further his political ambitions up the ladder.

That's why he mirrors so many others comments rather than his own...and why he does not come of with conviction of what he states....especially anything outside the social issues.

Perhaps because I’ve known Rick’s history here in Pa and heard him more than reading about him. Again it’s how he delivers and the tone he uses, as if he’s a Bible thumping preacher rather than a statesman...he’s just not ready to unite the congress, who by the way he could not get any supporters for his run when he started...they also know how abbrasive he comes across.

Each is going to support who they determine is best suited for the President of our country...but frankly Santorum just is not strong enough to get done what the country needs to get done. His learning curve is already evident...as he babbles thru trying to remmeber what the last coaching session given told him what he needs to say.
